Painting Grill

You know I'm not even sure Dave what brand it is. It was a gift, The Bra was given to me just before leaving Guam. In fact I'm taking off the Bra tonight so I can really get the effect of the grills new look against the body. So we'll see...

Hey Berto, it took an hour and a half I didn't sand it all the way down, that's why I used the primer to have something for it to adhere to. if I would have used the Krylon fusion I probably would have only scuffed the chrome up and then painted. Jeff did his that way, so I think I would have gone the same route. That's why I asked you as well how did you do yours, to get and idea as to how I should attack the project. it came out good not perfect but good.

Question. So you don't have to sand down the object if you use the Krylon fusion paint?
Krylon Fusion is designed to adhere to plastic, the chrome covering of the grill is a form of plactic. so just scuffing the chrome should do fine. Flaking chrome would be a different story. to anwser your question you should sand down the object a little to help the process.

The krylon paints are good for metals. I'd use the automotive primer to coat the metal before painting though. what are you looking at painting?

Do I need to sand down the aluminum before the primer?

I will post pictures when its done. Nothing big but something i meant to do awhile ago.

Any or most metals will require some sanding to allow primers and paints to grab ahold to the surface. without some sanding your coverage will be poor. you could also use steel wool in your process, you'll just have to clean very good or you'll have the SW fibers left on your metal that will rust and cause problems. I personally like using SW just use gloves and clean well. I say that depending on what you need sanded. paper wears and breaks down really quick especially wet sanding.

If the Metal your painting has a clear finish on it. Then there is no need inpriming it you could paint over it after a very lite scuffing. If it is raw metal then you would need to scuff, clean and prime before painting

Doc is super secretive about his Mods - hahahaha j/k
