More on the beater. I installed splash guards and Conti Truecontacts.

Then some spacers. Before to the left & after to the right. Cheapo's from premierauto on Ebay. $75 all in, so I figured wtf? Now I've got a more agressive looking beater that's still one of the slowest things on the road and it will stay that way.

I never cleaned the engine bay. I got it like this. Someone was almost as nutty as I. The intake plumbing is horribly inefficient, 10 times worse than the FX was, so I might have to do something about that.
Odd how Hyundai missed paint in several inconspicuous areas, one being under the passenger side cowl area as seen in pic 2.
A fun fact; Hyundai also used the Jatco RE5RO5A automatic transmission.

Still no supercharger. Just spent some grands on house mods and don't have the time to fool with it now, so I might get to a sea-level track this winter as I don't see FI coming by then, but ya never know.
I did walk one of these things last week though. Probably a manual trans (he chirped 2nd) & some kinda exhaust (raspy). Same wheels and color as the one below in the pic. I walked him by 2 cars from a slow start to 50-ish. Woulda done better if I left hard. 1st VQ I had the chance to race.

What the he'll is this? First, I start getting emails like "Hey, I got your dragtimes password and some other passwords too, so if you don't transfer a bunch of money to me than I'm gonna getcha..." BS.
 Get a job asshole.
There are some impressive cars on the site though.

A few updated pics with my moto g7 power. Not a bad camera. I wonder if the sound is any better? The overhead lights pick up the body lines well.

Brake pad time. I installed these brakes early 2016. The brake dust has been getting out of control for awhile now. The rears still wear WAY TOO FRICKIN FAST, even with the vdc pulled, just not as fast (pic 1). Oreilly's turned the rotors. I chose the Akebono brand this time. I also removed the "whatever" shields that imo do nothing but help retain heat to the rotor (bad) and collect the dust only to then deposit the brake dust in clumps. I should've done this a long time ago. They're weakly attached via rivets, the shinny dots visible behind the emergency brake plate (pic 3). I grabbed an old beat up flat head and just beat the hell out of'em. I flushed the brake fluid as well which hasn't been done since I installed these brakes. Probably waited a bit too long (pic 5).

These Tesla style systems are a hard mod for me to pass up. I'm gonna have to install one of these even though I couldn't care less about so-called tech. Thanks mole.
There's a few ways to go for my FX.

#1. Drop the FX off at a custom shop that will wrap the dash in leather without removing it from the car by removing the windshield and then have them install the one directly below which is a direct fit. All the dash speakers would be deleted as well.
s-l1600.jpg

#2. Use a Coverlay dash, match the paint myself or have it professionally wrapped then install it myself (deleted dash speakers). There are several options in this direction.

A. Use this cover for my model year...
F148513760.jpg
and this system...
s-l1600.jpg

OR

B. Use the dash cover for 2006-2008 model years by removing the part of the dash that is on either side of the existing door for the tape player...
F148513775.jpg
and either system 1...
s-l1600.jpg

OR
system 2. System 2 has only one option which is for the 2006-2008 model years.
fx35-dash-screen-jpg.jpg

The options for the 2006-2008 model years are a better fit as the one for 2003-2005 looks a little "loose" where the old tape deck door was located BUT with all that would be going on, perhaps that could be corrected. The leather or the plastic can be matched 100% to the existing color. The speaker holes can be left out (emailed Coverlay but no response yet) or fill pieces made then welded in. Rear door speakers, dash speakers permanently trashed, front door speakers, amp and sub replaced with tweeters added. Nothing stupid but something to keep up with this new system. I can see this being a 100% diy project costing around $2k  to having a shop do it all for something like $4k. I'd much rather diy this like I diy literally every aspect of my life but time will tell. Gotta make plans.

I suppose I'll have to re-wrap the various dash components, door handles, etc. to match. Maybe I'll find something that is a match to the dash instead of black.

Coverlay won't block off the dash speakers.
"To answer your 2nd question, no, we make all our products from exact molds for vehicles. The molds are so expensive to have made, we only use the factory model dash for our covers.
Custom orders are not handled at this time due to this reason, we would not be able to accommodate the custom modifications.
Thanks,
Jennifer"

The safe play is to go with the unit for my year, but if it's not too complicated, I like having options. For example, the 06-08 unit has a 2 year warranty as opposed to the 03-05 which has only 1.

Apparently the 2006-2008 model is plug-and-play for the 2003-2005 model years. Still trying to verify this.

The unit made for the 2006-2008 is sold by multiple stores but I found the manufacturer. She told me that the 06-08 unit is plug-and-play with the 03-05, so it's just a physical issue with the dash at this point.
The company that makes a unit for both dash types is a step back from the other in terms of the tablets "tech". He told me that his 06-08 unit should work and I can return it if it doesn't.
I'm still on the fence.

Found some pics of a Coverlay dash in a FX that's for sale. The fit looks really good and with some finesse and minor modification, it might be the way to go.

Installing a 03-05 coverlay dash for a 06-08 looks doable. Here's another 06-08 FX for sale with a coverlay dash. The top corners look like they're a bit sharper around the 03-05 radio bezel though. Hmm....

Looks like the 2 bottom tabs won't have existing clips to fit into.

I've been trying to do some research and I keep running into stuff like this on Ebay. The Chinese have got excellent taste!

I've been speaking with the manufacturer of all the units I posted pics of above. The manufacturer that doesn't currently make a unit for the 03-05 may start. The language barrier is a bitch.

It's official. There will be only one unit, the one in the pic above, for the 2003-2005 dashboard for the foreseeable future. The other manufacturer told me that it will be at least 6 months before they make their version of the Tesla style head unit.:(:poop:

The battery died on the beater so I gave it the FX's. I installed a 500 cca in the FX. It's so small. Should be good in my climate. It started right up on this 60* day. The old battery weight 37lbs and the new is 27lbs. Nice chunk of weight removed from an area that's up high and towards the front.
The old 640 fits fine in the beater. I did remove 1/2 the intake piping awhile back & used some hvac material to keep the incoming air coming from outside the bay. It's got more pep but no idea how much and really couldn't care less. The excessive length was annoying.

The cracks continue to multiply. I keep a cover on the dash, keep the FX in the garage, no extreme change in temps and the cracks keep coming. No bubbles. This must be G35 plastic.

Original. This does suck. On the bright side, there's many options. I recently contacted Just Dashes for a quote. Mucho dinero from what I've read.

Just Dashes is out
"Thank you for contacting Just Dashes! Unfortunately, we do not have an appropriate application for a 2003 Infiniti FX35. Please contact us again if you would like help with another vehicle.
Sorry we couldn't have been of more help.

Wait, what?? what is this entertainment replacement pic? Tesla styled radio/nav/controls display?? Did I miss something?

I dig it.
??.... you "did" it?

Did you install that Tesla style stereo/infotainment/tablet/display/etc in your dash??

The pic in your post looks sweet! I'm just not understanding what this unit is nor how this installation is done. The youtube video doesn't really give much info.
