Oil Cooler O Ring Repacement DIY----

Since these seem to be an issue with oil leakage I decided to coat the new O Ring with
Loctite 518 Gasket Eliminator a flexible sealer to hopefully never have this issue again---

Remove center through bolt with 22mm socket or wrench-----

Pull back oil cooler and you can leave the hoses attached--Remove old O Ring and wipe everything down good. Install new O Ring (w/sealer optional**)

Reinstall oil cooler and torque Oil Coller retainer bolt to 36 ft lbs-----

Done----(NO MORE LEAK:rolleyes:)

It's for the FX45 K&N 1010. It;s a little larger than the one for the FX35.The K&N 1006 is even a little larger but NAPA didn't have that one in stock.---

When I got the O Ring the dealer said they replace these all the time so thats why I decided a good sealer with the o ring.
 
Great write up! It so easy to do, I've gotten into the habit of swaping the gasket with every second oil change or so.
 
OMG.......36 ft / lb torque? Do you think the slight leaking could be caused by regular tightening with the 1/2 socket wrench? 36 ft lb sounds like i should have used a cheater bar to tighten this!
 
Howdy. I replaced my gasket last summer and it started leaking again. I nudged the torque up to 40#, no good. Think it would work to take it apart, clean it up good with solvent and try to reseal it with the sealer? Or should I just get a new gasket and sealer? Thanks for your feedback.
 
Thanks for the write up John. At 108k miles, mine just started leaking. Called Infiniti dealership, they wanted $10 for gasket. Called local Nissan dealership, $4....lol.
 
Keep an eye out for this when you get to around 100k miles guys. I am at 95k and this leak just got the best of me. Luckily it's only a $4 fix!

Read your post did it in 30 minutes and for 5.70... Thanks!
Nissan has also made a bigger "o" ring that supercedes that one

Is that ring considerably thicker? I replaced mine a while back and it's leaking again. Maybe I got the old part. Part bag long gone. Thanks.

Nice. This will comes in handy one day. Knock on wood! I'm at about 120K miles.
 
Mtn's oring is red, when I went to Nissan they gave me a black one. They say the black ones are the new orings.
