Independent Fog Light Controller

Wow, Im on the edge of a thread being closed. Fellas I didn't see a post of how this was done. Can you direct me to where a DIY was done or anything? Thanks

Ton:cool:

I believe jbaker has done this with a kp tech module

KP technologies fog light control installed! - InfinitiScene.com

All the post talked about it but nobody used it. Somebody bought it, but it did not work. Then I saw where Humberto got the mod to work, but he stated that you did not need the KP kit to do it. That's why Im wondering how was it done. I would love to do this mod. I always drive with my lights on because these fools "ahem" people act like they can't see you sometimes...lol.

did you read the post? it links to the org with some great write up:

i was planning on doing it myself but i stopped when you had to do the wire wher eu needed an osciliscope or whatevr. so i brougth it in and they trashed the instrustions it came with and we used JOHNMAX's instructions that he posted on the .org. they were 567890 times better than the ones KP sent. they didnt even have pictures:mad:

anyways, probably took around an hour but i wasnt there to witness it cuza i was at school while my baby was at the shop.....so haha probably under an hour if you know the car and what your doing down there. my guy jsut doesnt know the fx really well. anyways. i thinhk its agreat mod and definately a must!!!!

This write up covers installation of the KP Technologies Independent Fog Light Controller model# MX20. Their web site is http://www.kptechnologies.com

This module allows the fog lights to work reguardless of the headlight switch position, including when switching on high beams, as long as the fog switch is in the on position. If the switch is left on, they will shut off when the ignition is turned off, and come back on when the ignition is turned back on (as long as the fog switch is still on).

Professional installation is recommended. If you choose to do so please do it at your own risk. You will be wiring into sensitive circuits and modules.

The module comes with its own wire harness, and a relay and fuse holder for switching power to the fog lights. Here is a pic of the MX20 module.
MX20.jpg
The main module gets wired into the BCM which is in the drivers kick panel (left of the dead pedal). You will need to pull up the drivers sill plate trim panel by pulling up at the rear of the panel and continuing foward to remove it. Next you will have the kick panel cover to remove. There is a plastic nut towards the front you have to unscrew, then you can pry the panel towards the interior to release 2 clips that hold the panel on.

I chose not to do this mod myself.

I noticed with my HID fogs, sometimes only one comes on and after I switch it off and then on, both come on. So I keep them off now and turn them on after the headlight is on.

So based on that, I would always wonder if my foglights are both on!?

Maybe its just me, but I have read others with HID fogs have this issue (not all).

and I dont want to be like jbaker  kidding....

mine are gonna look saweeeet

the guy whose doing them says he doesnt need the KP module, so we'll see what happens. i bet that he does....:frown:

anyways, looks great! i cant wait to do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What was the install charge $$$$$$$? I understand that you used the KP tech switch right? $50 + install. Also did you take it to a radio, alarms, type shop for install? Thanks

Yeah.. not KP module is needed.... The only drawback is that the fogs are on 24/7

Pierce.. Maybe we can do it while we are at the track....

Humberto

The KP module was not used? Im looking on the org, but I guess Im missing instructions for not using the KP module. So how did you do it? Thanks

Toni

Guys....I read from the posts that the fog lights stay on when the highbeams come on. My question is that legal, because normally they cut out and thats pretty standard with most autos. Thanks

I decided to install this module myself along with Rubare. Question we have was in looking at the directions from Johnmax on the Org, He does not specifically state where to connect the orange wire that you route to the IPDM E/R. Maybe we both missed it, but can someone help us out the the answer? Thanks

Found it....thanks.

Hey Guys, this socket from KP Technologies is wrong and can you tell me what socket you used. I hooked this thing up 4 different ways and either the ignition is turning over but not catching and all the lights are on, not just the fogs. Your help or anyone's help is appreciated. Thanks

JBaker had used the module in both his first and second gen. No he has his hardwired directly to the switch I believe.

Can't see a reason why is cannot be use on a 2nd gen. All this box (MX20) is generate the pulse need to to trick the BCM (Body Control Module) that the head is on so that the fog light can be turn on.

Keep in mind that this is a module designed for Nissan vehicles in general so the instructions will be generic and not detailed specifically with the proper wire colors.
