I see BLUE!!!!

Thanks guys..!! Really happy with the result. Will try to make more pics as it's all final mounted. Will take a little while as i'm working on other things in the interior as well :ever:

Much Credit to Rookie for bringing up this idea. Honestly never would had come to the idea of doing this

Awesome job. It looks too tedious for my liking (DIY-style), but I would love to have it all blue...

In the picture of the gauge cluster... you didn't install the needles? Also, I see some blue light wash on the cruise control and a few other lights (VDC)... IMO you shouldn't be able to read them when they're not on.

I made the picture when we were still working on it as i almost forgot to even make pics. So i layed the front of the gauges on top of the cluster, so wasn't closed or what soever. I think that explains the wash that you mean. As you say normally isn't possible as you have all these "Chambers" in the white cluster board.

I'll try to make better pics soon when i have the whole dash back together

Gotcha, makes perfect sense. Looking forward to seeing the completed/installed pics!

I don't quite agree with the colors... mainly the center console and how there's plenty of red. For a few things like the small button status lights (on/off indications) it looks perfect, but for things like the volume adjust, etc... it looks out of place and doesn't flow with the rest of the theme. I understand that it was your preference and it definitely is your prerogative, just giving an honest opinion. Other than that, it's perfect and IMO the way the FX should have came!

Honestly couldn't say and have to calculate, cause half of what i bought i could trow away as i tried several leds before i got the right onces.
If you go to the farnell website and you take my pdf list you can see the pricing straight away and calculate for yourself.
Don't expect to be finished for a couple of tens of bucks. Think in total it would be at least 250,- or more.

Finished up this week with my winter projekt and the fx is closed up so will take pics soon and post.
Will also make another topic concerning my winter mods

Yeah, from your post I could see that you had some setbacks with having to purchase and repurchase LEDs. Best estimate is perfect in this situation, 250; Euros or Dollars?

It seems i might excaturate somewhat to much. Things is i ordered so many cause i went forward with the mod and couldn't go back anymore. As i said ordered many wich i didn't need as well.
I checked out the PDF and to give an example. All the leds of the radio and most other buttons wich are lighted contain the 0805's with www.farnell.com ordercode 1581243 are 0,43 eurocent each and you need approx 63 pieces so with a total of 27,- euro.
Other leds like function buttons from the airco and seat heatning are the plcc with code 1058434, you need approx 18 pieces @ € 0,74 = 14 euro.

of course there are many other leds but they don't costs that much. Only the doorhandle lightning costed somewhere around 20,- each :err:

So with the www.superbrightleds.com along the whole deal maybe did around 150,- euro's

Keep in mind that the farnell pricing is excl. VAT and SHIPPING....!!

hey guys, since this is the thread for illumination changes I figured I'd put up some shots of the guts of the new style cluster here too.

I read somewhere that the newer cluster uses electrolumination, but, it turns out that it doesn't. it uses some pretty bright leds, but leds none the less, so even the newer cluster is doable as an illumination change... the newer cluster is much more pretty especially during the day when unlit. few pictures:

can we get some completely assembled pics with needles and all? maybe a shot of the entire dash from the back seat?

Will Try to make some pics soon. Haven't been able to make good pics yet.

Turbo....!! Looks great man...!! Many thanks for the info. i see the LEDS that run in a circle....are those the once litgning up the gauce panel...?? Can you tell me what color those leds are....??
Seems that these cauge panels ( on wich the speed/revs are noted ) have the same orange coating as the old clusterboard but just want to be certain before beginning

Edit: Does the cluster also has any twist lock bulbs.....?? Can''t seem to find them on your pics....

wow......how long is it going to take u to put it back together?....

it's pretty easy to take apart & put back together

ray, the circle leds & all of the other same square base leds light this panel up. the new cluster is a direct swap for the old with the exception of, there is one extra terminal that needs ign power in the cluster plug. I'll get that info here a bit later, gotta find the picture I took of this position in the plug...

anyone looking for one of these later clusters, there are at least 2 different ones that I know of, with & without radar cruise. the first one I got did not have the radar cruise, still works fine, but doesn't display the cruise set speed or the distance selection, I have since replaced it with the correct radar cruise cluster

the plastic light distribution panel does a great job & there will be no hot spots in this setup if all the leds are changed... the newer design is pretty cool in that the whole cluster does not illuminate really, the only thing that illuminates is the numbers & the needles & the rings & of course the 2 little info displays... these are the only things transparent to allow light through... this is how they get it to look like it's invisible text when the car is off, & these leds illuminate even in the daytime to make the cluster viewable, which is also why they need to be so bright... at night fully cranked it's way to bright, need to take it down a notch to be comfortable at night

there are no twist in bulbs in this cluster ray... all led...

also I did not check the color of the leds, didn't power it while disassembled, if/when I take it apart again I'll try to do that, personaly I'm not so interested in changing the color myself so I didn't think to do that...

ha, that's my R&D unit, got a few ideas for it

I might have another available, don't want to say for sure yet. there was a guy on the org that's selling one in Europe, but I think he wants big $$ for it... there pretty hard to come across really, took me a long time to finally get one with radar cruise function, gchristopher, you got dibs if I do wind up with one available:smile:
