G37 / FX50 Akebono Brake Retrofit

no need to modify the front shields.
I would get FX35 specific SS lines and return the FX50 lines.

Hmmm...new disks're larger in diameter, existing shields are covering the inner half of the disk. Similar to the rears.

It's hard to get FX35 lines here, only by ebay (3 weeks shipping from USA).
Return is not an option - I've broken the container... the price was about 200$ =))

the front shield doesn't wrap around the rotors edges like the rears do, I don't think it needs to be cut at all from what I remember, unless maybe it needed to be trimmed a little where the caliper itself bolts to the knuckle? I can't remember if that only needed to be done in the rear or front too, but I think even that was only needed in the rear...

as I remembered it, the fronts are direct bolt ons. rears have to trim the edge wrap around along with the area where the 2 caliper bolts are, allowing the rear caliper to mount without touching the dust cover. just refreshing turobcad's notes. (that's if you are keeping the original rear dust covers, it can be replaced with the fx50s version, just a bit more $$)

Hi there.

My FX is being repaired at dealers' station (front bumper change), so I'll get pictures in few days.
This is new FX (09), but the construction is the same - look at the shield.

so you have a 2nd gen FX? I didnt know that since your ride is " 2008 FX45" ?

If you have a FX45 , again NO MODIFICATION NEEDED.

Read carefully :))
This is not MY FX, I've got 2008 45.
But shields on the 5th (from the top) foto are the same and covering disk a little bit.
I think it's a specifics of Gen1 Russian Edition's.

I'll get my car from dealer and take fotos..

the link works but your described photos are a fail since the site requires a registered acct. any chance of direct linking the photos instead of the entire site?

the fx50 dust cover is bigger, doubt your fx45 is the same. guess u'll find out once the proj starts.

That's it.

So I've got the same shit on my stock 45th disks: shield is covering it from the face (where vent space is).

BTW for NEW FX owners: Akebono kit fits "bolt on" both for front and rear.

Sry for the delay on the write up. Some elders in the family passed away not long ago, wasn't quite in the mood working on the write up. And also my computer hdd were fucked, so starting everything from scratch now. Working on it a bit everyday. :embarrassed:

Hi guys,

What is the length of the banjo bolt I'll need?

Thanks

M10x1.0 with a 20mm shank, stoptech part number (772.21707)

So...I have FX45'08.
Dust shield needs to be modified - it has the same construction as rear one. :)

I apologize if I didnt know your year and brake style. Looking at infinitipartsusa, they show the backing plate for years 03-07, they must have just changed it for 08!?
so you finished your install?

Didn't realize so many FX owners were interested in the AKEBONO kit. We were actually the first dealership to do this install on a 07 G35S. The picture in the first post of this thread is ours actually. Haven't bothered to read the whole thread, but it's good to see people are doing the mod.

our rear rotors are different, would need to substitute fx50 rear rotors, also will have to add fx50 rear knuckles to this as well as my balljoint adapter kit...

Hi there.

No problem :) Yes, 5 days and 200km on new fronts. Have replica without spacers.
They're still braking in, I suppose (what's the normal period for braking in, by the way?).
Thinking for rears (hi turbo :)).

BTW
Our local guys are machine drilling bolt holes for "bolt mount" on FX45's rears saying it's ok. Any opinions about this way?

did you perform the bed-in process? if so then they should be good to go.

as for the rears .... let us know how it goes with some pics.
