There is only about 3mm of clearance and that is with 10mm spacers.

Put your finger to the caliper for reference. The Akebonos may be a little further away from the hub (don't know the rotor diameter) at it's furthest point, and than come straight out at it's widest point.

Tried to post better pics, but their is absolutely no space for me to get my fingers in there. The wheel spokes are just passing the top and sides of the caliper with no more than 2mm max space. Kinda tough holding the light as well...my other hands have gone to bed....lol.

that'snot gonna fit without spacers... I made a template off of ayias 08, the template will be good for all 06-08 fx's, just put it up to the caliper & bracket & check wheel clearance. if anyone local with a 03-05 wants to voulenteer to come by my shop & allow a test fit I can generate an 03-05 template too.

I can get parts locally at wholesale, but my local diascount is not even as good as joe can sell these for, factor in shipping & for smaller & single items I just buy local anyway, but for larger orders it'll make sense for me to try & work with joe on this one really to get you guys the best price.

there are a few small issues besides the balljoint seats. there minor, but need to be resolved. these are major hang up areas for joe but I can take care of them. they are:

1) the ball joint nut also needs to be replaced, I have to source something, shouldn't be much of an issue. the ones I used on mine came from a set of kyb struts, locking nut, but if I can source castle nuts to retain the cotter pin that would be even better.

2) the 4 bolts to each rear hub need to be longer for the new spindle. it's aluminum vs our orig. steel, so it's flange is thicker. we (with joe) tried ordering 09 bolts which should have been fine, but for some very strange reason was still not long enough. maybe the order got screwed up or?, I will order one of these bolts from my local dealer to see what comes, worse case I can source these bolts outside as I did for my own install

3) the banjo brake bolts need to be shortened. the brakeset joe sent to eg3 was not shortened, luckily I did his install so I took care of it. from another Z I did I found out that the bolts that come with stoptech brake lines are easier to do this with cause they are shorter than the stock bolts. they just need to be drilled at the tip vs actually cutting, but either way either shortened bolts or modified stop tech bolts & lines need to be included



that's it, everything else is good to go. I'm not going to wait for joe any more. I'm going to just get a list togeather of all the parts I need, then see how much more I can save with quantity of 5, 10 etc.. give him the parts list & get my best price, also get my best price from my local dealer too.. then I'll add whatever it is that I would need to supply, bolts, bj nut, bj seat etc... I'll see if I can get him to drop ship his packages direct to you guys & then I'll send out my package to you, instead of having every thiing shipped to me for distribution, but if that becomes necissary or if I wind up with my local dealer then I'll figure out a way to deal with it.

I'll put togeather my own group buy for these shortly, tommorow I'm going to order a ball joint nut & a spindle bolt to help me source the final hardware & start putting togeather a parts list... let me see what I can put togeather for you guys...

turbocad is a god among men. you are the man, hands down. i'm going to keep an eye out for this template you are going to make for the 03-04. If they'll fit behind my ultraleggeras i might have to pull the trigger. i will probably be needing breaks come summer anyhow, so it might make sense to just go all out then.
 
thanks guys... to think I originally started all this cause I didn't want to spend the $1,900 it would have taken to match my front rotoras with rear rotoras:tongue: in the end that would have winded up cheaper & a whole lot easier for me, but, at least the good to come out of this is all my trials & fitment mods will help everyone else have these too, so it was worth it in the end

reposting this from a post I made to eg3's thread for those that watch this thread:

just spoke to justin, he says that he did tell you that the brakes themselves are a little cheaper than the front BUT also said that there def are add'l parts necissary too...

discussed a few things with him, hopefully he's going to sort out his end & these rears will be available soon, I told him about the bolt issues & about the banjo bolt length issues too, he also noticed that the aftermarket brake lines include shorter banjo bolts ,but he didn't fully realize weather it actually still bottomed or not on his install, he just tightened them & they don't leak, but if the bolt bottoms & deforms the end even a little it can impede fluid flow. the problem is the akebono's are not really designed for a banjo bolt at all, they are designed for & use a flared hard line on the oem install, luckily there is a flat boss & enough thread engagement with the correct banjo fitting for it to still work, but the bolt length is critical, too long & it'll bottom, too short & danger of stripping the threads on install or worse, falure in use... he's going to look into these few things, took my # direct & at this point he's going to be my go-to guy instead of joe from here on out... hopefully soon we'll be there... I'm really trying to get this put togeather...

Yeah, I spoke with Justin yesterday afternoon around 4PM and he said he just talked to a guy from the forum, so I just suspected it was you...lol. Also I suspect that he may be a little more accessible, but the good thing is he sounds like he has a great attitude, which hopefully will benefit all of us that are interested in making that brake upgrade.

from what I told justin, he's going to get the parts in to put one assembly togeather so he can straighten out the bolt issues & stuff, I got my replacement BJ nut today & I'll measure it & find a suitable replacement to cover that end, see what he does with this soon hopefully...
 
Please excuse me and I apologize for being lazy and not reading back through this thread. I was wondering if the losing the parking brake with the install of the rear brakes are still an issue or has that been resolved.

Got to say thanks turbo for your relentless work at getting this done.....thank you!
 
your welcome, no problem:smile:

parking brake is retained 100%, only becomes an issue if you tried to run a g37 rotor instead of an fx rotor, that gets tricky...
