G37 / FX50 Akebono Brake Retrofit

a pool cue??? last good one I bought was like $75, wtf kind are you considering that weighs so heavily on mod decisions?

weekend was fcuked, gotta try these bj adapters today...

and gotta finish something else before Thursday

yeah, painting it today just incase  don't worry bro, I'll be ready.. you bringing the cipher?

Yup. I'll be coming on Wednesday night since the appointment I have is at 8:30 am on Thursday. I think I can be at your place around noon time or early afternoon. Don't want to get stuck in the 5 pm traffic so chances are it won't be after 2 pm.. Good for you?

lol. im looking at a few custom cues. Cognoscenti (joey gold) is most likely the winner, although i've seen a few southwests that are grabbing my eye right now. i've been playing pool more than half my life now. i'm probably gonna go off for about $2000-$2500 when i pull the trigger which believe it or not, is nothing compared to what's out there.

it's probably the only thing i do way more than anything........ it's an addiction. modding the FX is just an obsession. both are hard habits to break.

damn, that's one crazy pool cue man, shoulda guessed that stuff like that was out there, don't think there are any hobbies that can't get stupid $$$ if you go all out on them...

I have a pool table in my basement but never use it... wish I could play good.. funny part is, I used to be pretty good, then, I wanted to learn more, once I learned all the physics behind it & learned all about the science of English & rebounding & everything, then all of a sudden I suck:rofl: I played better before I thought about it to much I think... now I'm thinking of getting rid of the pool table, takes up half my basement...

Chi, you're probably not playing 3-ball right? If only I could find a spot that has it..

not too much. im in a couple 8 ball leagues now. i used to play a lot of 9 ball and one-pocket. now it's mostly just 8 ball and straight pool and sometimes ill play banks to keep sharp.

and turbo, i'm with you. once you start to learn why you should be hitting something a certain way, you start to forget how to hit it. that's why you practice. when i was younger, i probably played anywhere from 10-30,35 hours every week. now i'm at about 10 or so consistently. maybe 20 when tournaments are coming up.

Dave! I saw an FX50S today and gave a nice close-up inspection of these brakes. There's absolutely minimal clearance between these brakes and the stock 21's it's ridiculous. I do believe this might be on my list of to-do's.

Question though... I remember a bit back you were referring to the lack of added performance? Do you feel like these are mostly show and don't offer a whole lot extra over stock? Also, these HEAVY rotors will add quite a bit of rotating mass, no? Lastly, there hasn't been any head-way in aftermarket rotors so far, even though they're shared with the G37 and possibly... 370Z??? I don't know about the Z, I was just speculating...

there is def no lack of added performance, the stock 1st gen fx brakes suck as far as performance goes, no mistake about that, these are much better, just the fact that there a non floating design alone is a major step up, not to mention the added piston area & brake area, worlds better than the stock stuff. maybe I refered to the fronts being the biggest bang for the buck & the rears maybe being less necissary or more for esthetics than performance. this don't mean that the rears aren't better than our originals in every way too, this just means though, that even with just the front you will see the bigger performance increase, front brakes do 70% of the stopping though.

this same would hold true for rotoras or brembos or whatever, always gonna see the big improvement with the fronts, yeah rears are an improvement still over just fronts, but not as dramatic of an improvement, many on a budget do just front bbk's, always nicer to do all around though...

yeah, the rotors are heavy, not as bad as heavy wheels though cause the weight is closer to the center of the hub, but still rotating mass none the less... haven't searched recently for aftermarket rotors again but haven't heard of anything either really...

oh yeah, so the adapers fit! were good to go, here's a picture of the new correct fit:

& heres how it fit with the wrong size hole, sloppy enough to move around under stress & movement causes wear :

so the ball joint adaters are here, ready to go. hopefully we have answers soon about the rest of the kit... I got about 30 sets of these things ready to go :frown:

Frank there's definitely a big improvement over stocks. The pedal is never mushy starting from its holding point and stopping performance is much better. Had an in involuntary test yesterday when a cat jumped in front of fx.. Way better than stocks... The only thing is that you never really completely get rid of the braking "style". What I mean is, the brakes hold around the middle part of the brake pedal travel when you hit it gradually.. When you hit the brakes hard, the pedal hardens up instantly but if its gradual, you have a good amount of brake pedal travel.. Might be fine for most people (you may not want stiff brakes in stop-go traffic) but for me, I'd prefer it to be stiff all the time..

As far as aftermarket rotors, there are some offerings for the g37 guys (it's the same system) but those are drilled-slotted stock rotors. Can't lose much weight that way I guess... Still, I'm very happy with the brakes.. Esp after the pedal adjustment, they're at the level I want them to be...

Just finished reading all 10 pages of this post. One question, are we doing this on an individual basis or is there going to be a group buy? I posted up on the "org" but I think that thread is dead or needing resuscitation...lol.

This might be an indicator of your answer:

John, are you able to wholesale-source the other parts through your system? I remember you getting most of the repair/replacement parts for your salvaged FX, is this not applicable to these parts?

Ok...cool. Because of my wheels and fitment inside and outside I have a few questions about adding the spacers. Eg3 gave me some good info, but Im a little concerned about the clearance. Turbo is down to the exact science type of guy...lol.

Ton, I think if you could post a good pic of your wheel hub and a top-down pic of your wheel face (for spoke shape) I think it'll give a better idea for those who can help..
