Well, here is go again . In my endless pursuit for the perfect intake for my FX45 I have done another mod recently. I had wanted to try this ever since the weapon-R intake came out but the cost was a bit much to justify this experiment. But recently a used one was available at the right price so I got it.

This is a mixture of the Weapon-R intake (The cone filter & MAF tube adapter) and the oem intake. As you can see from the picture it fits pretty well with no modifications necessary except removing the back portion of the oem filter housing. A bracket to hold the adapter and filter in place would have been nice but is not really necessary as it rests nice and snug against the front part of the oem filter housing. I decided to leave this part on because of 1) lack of a bracket 2) to keep the air intake direction as close to the oem as possible. I have noticed no rattling or movement in the engine bay with this setup.

After a week of driving this way I have noticed a nice little gain in mpg from my normal weekly driving route which is approx. 75% highway and 25% city driving. Went up from 17.5 to 18mpg and went over 320 miles with one fill up. Cruising speed on the highway was always 70mph.

Performance wise I have not yet pushed it very hard. But have not gotten a CES light as I did on occasion with the LMS intake. Sound is nice and clean. It is not as loud as the LMS intake and without the high end whining noise you got from the K&N cone filter at WOT. At WOT right now it is definitely deeper with this sponge type filter. I will report back with any updates as they happen.

I understand a JWT pop charger will be available soon. I will be curious to see how that setup will differ from this.

Ok I am/was confused I thought the new "Tech" section was for technical issues or help issues :embarrassed:. Did not know we meant it to apply to everything technical/mechanical mods as well. Noted .

On another note, man your engine bay is so clean. Are all the parts painted or are some of the parts coated in some kind of clear coat?

LOL, that's what Ken said this past weekend. But I only really clean the engine bay once a month or so just so it isn't that hard to clean the next time. But there is a clear coat on the paint of the engine cover, the front air duct and the battery and brake fluid covers. Some of the other parts here and there I painted myself, like the MAF housing.

Nah! If I wanted that then I would just have kept the stock filter intake in. This setup has added a nice little growl and at the same time also enhanced the exhaust note. Still have not pushed the FX that hard with this intake and I am very curious as how the FX will react in the winter with the colder dense air. Hope it does not trip and lights.

I'm sure it'll be fine. I was just thinking 'bout the heat in the bay . . then again, the Stillen aint completely sealed either

It won't trip a light. I had it on for a year and ran at the consult at the dealer and they confirmed no issues.

You'll like how it reacts to winter, even better=)

Well finally had some time to change the weapon r on my FX45.

It not pretty but it does it job LOL

Are there any filter elements on the top part of the cone you attach the accordion tube? I think it's supposed to get the air from the sides, not the top..
