Well, here is go again
. In my endless pursuit for the perfect intake for my FX45 I have done another mod recently. I had wanted to try this ever since the weapon-R intake came out but the cost was a bit much to justify this experiment. But recently a used one was available at the right price so I got it.
This is a mixture of the Weapon-R intake (The cone filter & MAF tube adapter) and the oem intake. As you can see from the picture it fits pretty well with no modifications necessary except removing the back portion of the oem filter housing. A bracket to hold the adapter and filter in place would have been nice but is not really necessary as it rests nice and snug against the front part of the oem filter housing. I decided to leave this part on because of 1) lack of a bracket 2) to keep the air intake direction as close to the oem as possible. I have noticed no rattling or movement in the engine bay with this setup.
After a week of driving this way I have noticed a nice little gain in mpg from my normal weekly driving route which is approx. 75% highway and 25% city driving. Went up from 17.5 to 18mpg and went over 320 miles with one fill up. Cruising speed on the highway was always 70mph.
Performance wise I have not yet pushed it very hard. But have not gotten a CES light as I did on occasion with the LMS intake. Sound is nice and clean. It is not as loud as the LMS intake and without the high end whining noise you got from the K&N cone filter at WOT. At WOT right now it is definitely deeper with this sponge type filter. I will report back with any updates as they happen.

I understand a JWT pop charger will be available soon. I will be curious to see how that setup will differ from this.
