Faded Window Trim Repair

Any long term updates on how this product has been working?

Has anyone tried it on the bottom moldings? I think this might make them look much better on my black car...

Lasted about 6 months and then had to redo--I think just painting them is the best way to go short of replacing them.As to using the turtle wax ice on the trim that helps shine it up a little but doesn't help with color fade.

For th e bottom moldings i've tried most things like everyone else. Overall my detailing company of choice is griots garage. I have just about all their products and use them all on my car. I just saw this reconditioner they make the other day and im thinking about buying a can or two (only 12 a can). The products that griots makes i have found to be some of the best in the detailing industry and i expect the same from this product!

I painted mine almost a year ago & have never had to think about them since, still look new glossy black perfect & they will for years to come.... to me this is even better than replacing as they all match perfectly now, no purple mirror triangles or purplish rear vent glass moldings either, everything just glossy black... there now as durable as any other painted car really, in the end this is probably not cheap to have profesionally done & doing them yourself can be a bit of a challenge really, but not impossible either...

well some things need to be removed & some just have to stay on the car... for example you can't remove the upper moldings at all without damaging them beyond useable, there stuck on with a press fit & double sided tape & they get all wavy if you try to remove them, to remove them is to replace them so there done on the car... qtr glasses too will stay in... mirrors & lower belt moldings should be removed, mirrors get completely dissasembled... you have to remove all the upper weatherstrip & cover the whole car for paint... it's a bit of a job but best results short of swapping out for the chrome I think... I had some pictures around somewhere of the procedure, prolly in my fx thread... dated somewhere around mid last winter I think, know it was snowing at the time

buffing with light abrasive polish works also. That part on my car was faded too when I bought the car (I suppose from hitting the sun) and it buffed out nicely. It has that original glossy black look. It's been about 5 months since I polished it and didn't re-fade or anything. This seems like a less expensive route IMO.

the bottom moldings will respond very well to the bondo black stuff. since the fx's are like the h2's and use that plastic, thats what i used to polish up my h2. worked very well and lasted a long time

I just bought my '06 FX35 from a dealer where the upper window trim looked as good as the '08 model next to it... The dealer had it washed before I picked it up and the next morning I noticed it was faded. Whatever the dealer was using doesn't last. I thought this upper window trim was black painted aluminum? How does Back-to-Black compare?

Mother's back to black works very well, but needs to be re-applied every few months. Better than whatever the dealer was using...

I tried Mothers Back to Black and hate it on the window trim (only looks ok if you don't buff) but got excellent results on the plastics. Does anyone know what material the window trim is? Is it painted aluminum?

Hi I just picked up a 04 fx and the trim is fading and I see so many possible fixes but does anyone know which is the universally accepted fix?

thanks

The most accepted fixes are to either paint them yourself, get a body shop to re-paint the or get the FX45 chrome window trim. Using products and buffing are just temporary fixes in my opinion.
