Faded Window Trim Repair

i decided to go with the chrome window trim when i get the money. the black trim is just going to keep fading. the black is just more detailing that you have to worry about. :smile (2):
 
DId this this weekend... started off with the Bondo black and let it dry then glossed it up with some 3m scratch remover... takes a ton of effort to get it right but it looks great now. Not sure how long it will last, but the before was very faded and now its exactly the same as the rest of the glossy trim.
 
I tried the bondo stuff a while back and it never looked right. My car is black, so the shade was always just off. It worked great on another car I had with a more rubberized window trim. I ended up using a 3M vinyl which matches the original trim very, very well. It's thicker than a lot of other vinyls and the shade and gloss are very close to the original pieces. The material is marketed to black out chrome trim so I figured it would work for this. Someday I'll get them painted, but this works for now.
 
I keep polishing the trim above the window, but it fades back again. Haven't tried the bondo or back to black on it.
I'm thinking to try vinyl wrapping all my window trim, any tips on making it stick well?
 
The vinyl will stick just fine, it's a very flat area so you won't have any problems with getting it to stay. Just clean w/ alcohol as Andy mentioned to make sure there isn't any residue. The adhesive promoter is probably overkill for this area.

I've seen the fading, not flaking like yours. Use steel wood and sand it down to get a nice smooth area to paint on. I did that with my grille before I had it painted black. You should be able to remove the trim too, but be very careful because you can break the clips on them, but removing them will make it much easier to work with and save a lot of time.
 
Which of the two package ones are recommended...mainly why is one like 16 and one is 8?

I figured there were others wirh the same problem , but that's just my luck. Guess its florida heat and being black

Wow that is pretty bad, fading will always happen but I have never seen flaking like that. You probably have to replace that trim.
 
That is EXACTLY hom my trim looks carl292! Every single piece is like that except for my driver door trim which I think may possibly have been changed by the owner prior to me. It's as if there was a clear film over the black that wasn't removed because under all the flakey white film is nice looking black trim. Removing the white flakey stuff without damaging the underlying plastic is posing a problem though. I'm wondering if it is the hot,humid weather because you live in Florida and I live in Hawaii. It's a huge eyesore and back2black and other products don't do anything to fix the flaking action.
 
Window trim peeling!!!!

well the south texas sun has gotten to my FX. the window trim on both sides is starting to peel. its a clear coat over the black trim. i just want to know if there is anything out there that can safely remove it. i dont think there is a TSB on this. any suggestions will help because it looks horrible like scratches all over the trim.
 
mine is just like the trim in the pictures. the clear coat on the trim is flaking off. need to find something to get off the clear coat without damaging the black trim underneath. anyone find a solution on how to do that?
