Disadvantages of Lowering

Wheel spacers will bring your wheel/tires out so they won't look recessed in the wheel well. They are optional (mainly for looks). I could probably do with 15 mm spacers but I can get away with not using any as well. Depending on if you're going to lower it more (cutting 1/2 coil or part of the rear spring mount), you may have to be careful of the thickness of the spacer you use b/c your wheel could rub on the fender edge (metal).

Another instance where you may need wheel spacers is if you're looking at getting a big brake kit upgrade, so the calipers will clear the wheel spokes, depending on the wheel design.

Do you guys suggest wheel spacers for any reason if you plan on getting lowered?

Absolutely! IMO, if you lower it and do not add spacers, the increased camber of the wheels due to the drop will make the offset of the wheels look funny. I have H&Rs and 20mm H&R spacers all around and I honesly think the vehicle should come from the factory this way. Offsets are perfect, ride hight is lower but not too low.

Make the move, you will not be disappointed.

since you have a 06 , springs should be enough. But really depends on how many miles you have on the shocks. If you have the cash, get the shocks/struts too since it can be done all at the same time.

glad I found this thread. Do you recommend with new shocks as well or springs are just fine?

I agree with Merch... if your FX has low miles, just put the springs in for now and replace the shocks/struts as needed. Mine rides nice with 17K stock struts/shocks and H&R springs.

Disadvantage is the storage space the OEM springs take up in my garage. Only thing I could think of :err:

Does the mud flap need to be modify for it to be lower? To OP how many hours did your shop quote your for the install?

If I'm going to get rims in after winter would it be a better idea to do the spring + rims together since I will need alignment and I can order the rims with the perfect offset for the lowered height?

No need for mudflap modification. I was quoted for 3 hrs of work for the springs. If you want to get springs and wheels done together, that's fine. Wait one or two weeks after the drop to give some time for the springs to settle before the alignment. Is there a lowering kit for the 2009 FX's already?

the H&R sport spring that OP posted? 53044 don't know about the actually availability though. My cousin who is a car repair appretice told me I will need a at least a day to install the springs on the fx and than all 4 side need to be corrected balance and than do an alignment. Balance AND alignment just for a set of lowering spring? Or did I just misunderstand?

Still back-ordered Cheech.
I'm hoping on getting some H&Rs this winter to install in the Spring.

I'm anxious to see your before and after pics along with your report on them.

Uh, sorry to say this but unless your cousin is planning on doing this in his home garage with hand tools, a day is WAY too long for springs for the FX. Also, if your tires were already correctly balanced prior to lowering, a set of springs is not going to change that. Of course it wouldn't hurt to rebalance if it has been a while since you've had them done.

I would not have him do your springs. Sorry, just saying. Not trying to show him any disrespect or anything but I'm trying to look out for you and your car's best interest.

The one thing I found that might be the issue after lowering is that you will feel your headlight cover range will be shorter. However, it is adjustable by turning the screws around around the headlight mounting.

nono he is not going to do this in the garage lol, i ask him for advice and tats what he gave me. If i lower i'm going with a shop that i can go back to and maybe get mad at if anything goes wrong without the whole family thing coming in between.
