Crank Pulley (Fluidampr) installation

Wow, that is on stubborn bolt. When I did mine, I was nervous having a break bar on the crank bolt. I didn't crank the engine long enough. You sure you crank long enough?

Hey la...I think so. I mean I cranked it for about a second each time...and I've tried like twenty times. Pep boys couldnt even get it off with a 3/8 impact gun....they told me I'm gonna have to remove the fans so they can fit a 1/2 in gun in there. Any thoughts??

Ok then, one second each crankl and about twenty times! My guess the 1/2 impact gun is next. I have not taken the fan off neither. So have nothing to share there. Sure hope the 1/2 gun will loosen it for you. Good luck man!

Thx la....it will have to wait though. Getting my Transgo shift kit installed today :)
and then i will come back to this stubborn bolt this wknd. Hopefully the 1/2 gun will work. Thx for the help man...

Hey la...actually having a tranny shop do this. I live in an apartment complex and
don't have my own garage so I didn't want to try this on the street....tho after seeing your write-up I really wanted to do it myself. But didn't want to risk not finishing and leaving my car up on jacks outside in the street unprotected. The shop is doing it for $800 no tax...includes the kit, install and tranny fluid. They are also giving me a warranty on their work...will post my thoughs on your thread once I get it back tmrw...can't wait!!!

Now If i can jst get this damn bolt off!!! :(

There is another method involving feeding a length of cotton rope into one of the cylinders through the spark plug hole. This would keep the engine from turning and facilitate the use of a large breaker bar. I wouldn't do it personally but I think many people have pulled it off successfully... Definitely find a better explanation online before you try it.

Thx Tchuck,
Nice guy that tried to help me at pep boys told me he's seen a tool they have...that has jaws you attach to the crank and has a long handle like a pipe and you hold this one to keep the crank from turning...then there's another that is like a breaker bar but much bigger and attaches to the crank bolt. Then you would use both and pull in opposite directions w/ 2 ppl. I'm tying to find someone who has this....

That sounds like it would work. I'd think a tire shop might have a pneumatic 1/2" impact wrench that would fit...? :dontknow:

Hey fellas...finally got this freaking bolt off!! Took it to Discount Tire and they were able to squeeze in a 1/2in impact gun and get it loose enough for me to take home and get it off myself...the gun actually got stuck btw the fan and we had to wiggle it free. Anyway was able to take it off with jst my torque wrench....
But I could not get the oem pulley off with my hands so rented a pulley puller from pep boys and it worked really quick. So I put my new pulley on and was able to torque it to about 34ft by holding the pulley with my hand and turning the torque wrench with the other...the one holding the pulley got cut up pretty bad :(
So my question is how did you guys torque the bolt the extra 60 degrees without turning the engine?? I do not have enough leverage to hold the pulley with one hand and torque with the other and I'm not sure how to keep it from moving...can I jst leave it the way it is? But I want to follow the instructions and torque it correctly. Need your advice again tchuck and la lol

Glad to here you got that stubborn bolt off. I just tighten it as much as I can by hand with the help of one of those rubber strap wrench thingy to hold it from turning. I can't remember if I torque it to spec or not.

I used the diy impact wrench; a box wrench and a hammer. I didn't quite get 60 degrees but along with Loctite I'm comfortable with its security.

Thx again guyz...I did use loc tite also. I think I'll try your box wrench and hammer trick tchuck. Good advice once again fellas....thx.
