Crank Pulley (Fluidampr) installation

Thx again la...u da man. Sorry one more question....when you remove the crank bolt, if I lay the breaker bar on the ground, it should be to the left with the bar handle towards the passenger side correct?? I don't have ramps so I can't do the string tie thing that tchuck did....

Totally off thread hijack style here...is your Avatar pic taken in the Rose garden?

Si. The rose gardens, not the Rose Garden.

If you use the ground instead of the frame rail, you want the breaker bar to be toward the drivers side. Imagine the motor turning clockwise; your bar should be like the hour hand of a clock at 4:00-5:00. Not. 7:00-8:00.

Hey tchuck...I tried the string method and
The bolt wont budge?? I tried cranking the engine
2 times and then checked the bolt, I did this
for five tries and nothing? Any ideas?

Spray some PBlaster on the bolt and let it sit for 20min, then try it again. If that doesn't work you may have to take it to someone with a pneumatic impact wrench (they're the only kind that will fit between the radiator and pulley).

Thx man...I'll try the Pblaster tmrw...if that doesn't work I'll take it somewhere...u think I could have caused any damage by tryin this too much??

No. I think it's more likely that your battery is weak than your crank pulley is too tight or rusted. Either way as long as you don't hold the ignition on for more than a second at a time you aren't hurting anything.

Hey tchuck...tried taking it to pep boys and they tried it with the only impact gun they could fit in there and it wudnt move! I hit it wit PB blaster and tried with the breaker bar on the ground and nothing. U think I should put in a new battery...mine is six years old and never changed it??

That's rough. Fwiw, I have an Optima Yellow top D35 and when I did the ignition/crank pulley thing it worked instantly. There may be an unknown factor with yours that's preventing it from coming off (someone may have removed and overtightened it before) but if you need a new battery anyway I'd highly recommend the one I have.

Thx man...u think that might give a little more torque when I try to crank it? I think I mite need a new one anyway as its the same battery that came with the car new. It does give me trouble starting up on cold mornings. Appreciate all your advice bro...

No problem. I do not at all regret my battery upgrade. Mine is well over a year old now and my FX still starts twice as fast as it ever did before at any temperature.

Cool...I'm gonna pick one up tmrw and swap the batteries and then try cranking it again. Hopefully that'll work...I'd hate to have to take it someone to do it after spending the wknd on it...it's my mission to get this thing off now lol

Right on man. Good luck! FYI, the Yellow Top D35 and the Red Top model 35 both fit perfectly in the FX. The difference is well stated on the Optima website. Yellow - Red

Nice write up Tchuck!

Wanted to add that in my case, I installed the Fluidampr along with Stillen's lightweight alternator and accessory pulleys. My impressions in the difference in feel was almost negligable - from your write up I now feel like the extra weight of the damper pulley may have been offset by the lightweight pulleys, thus making the net difference closer to feeling just like OEM.

Thanks! I have the UR "lightweight" accesory pulleys. Unfortunately they aren't actually any lighter than the stock units (my scale reads to 0.X" and there was no difference). Probably should have gone with the Stillens...

Hey tchuck...ok put in an optima red top yesterday...tried the cranking method and still didn't work. My only option is to take out the fans and get in there with a 1/2 in impact gun. It doesn't look that hard to take out but anything I should now. I see I need to disconnect a few clips and the large hose at the top. Should I disconnect the battery? Couldn't find a DIY for removing the fans?? Appreciate any advice bro...

Wow. That's one stubborn bolt you've got there.
I've never removed the fans but its always a good idea to disconnect the battery when you're going to be dealing with anything electrical.
