cold start problems

I have this issue now when it's not even that cold yet. Does it every now and then. I still haven't had the issue where it won't start at all, but it does start and the RPM's bounce around a bit. I'm thinking it's a fuel issue, and with the colder, denser air there's not enough fuel being delivered. Could be due to the fact that I was tuned in about 100 F weather also.

I used to get it now and then, cold weather or not, but now I seem to get it all the time if the car has been sitting overnight. I just want to know if someone that had the bouncing rpms at start up and replacing the ac amplifier fixed that.

I have an 06 too and same problem. Will be changing the battery soon. Mine is drained. Hopefully this fixes the problem. Just curious...does anyone know if Infiniti even knows about this issue? Any TSB or recalls?

From everything I've read:

1. A battery temporarily fixes the issue...some people posted that it went away for months, and then came back. Maybe the AC amp is very picky about voltage, and when your new battery starts to degrade a little bit, the problem comes back. I just replaced my battery 2 days ago (my battery was an original 2006), I was having the starting issue, and jumping RPM's. I have not had either of the issues since. Also to note, that I didn't have the issue until the temps got into the 40's and 50's.

2. Replacing the AC amplifier, without replacing the battery fixed all of a local guys issues, for more than a few years now. Just to note the connection between battery and AC Amp; Infiniti will not warranty the replacement of the AC Amplifier (if under warranty and defective) unless a new battery is installed along with it. Interesting.... My guess would be either a faulty component in the AC amp, or a cold solder joint.

3. There are no TSB's or Recalls for this issue, however there were many lemons especially in 2006 surrounding this issue.

Wow...lemons!! I did not expect that from Infiniti. So did anyone here actually follow through on the lemon part? Was your car replaced or bought back? How did you proceed with the exchange?

I was looking through the web and am finding other owners in other forums have the same issue. A website I found showed this...

Cold-starting problems: In very cold conditions, the starter may not run and may require replacement of the Intelligent Power Distribution Module. (2004)

The problem is that everyone who experiences this issue, has no problem with the starter turning the motor over, it just wont catch. As soon as you turn the key off, and try to start again, it starts...then idles up and down until it stabilizes.

...and after a couple of months with the new battery the issue returned. So as lateforwork2 said, it should be a voltage problem. When the battery was new it started fast and fine. Now the problem came back...

I have an '06 and this has been happening to me for about a month now, cold or not. Even in 80 degree weather it happens. I will have my AC Amplifier replaced this weekend when I drop my FX off at Infiniti for other things I'm having done, and I'll have a definitive answer as to whether or not it works. Might replace my battery, too, even though it's only a couple years old (but I won't replace it until I see if the AC Amplifier replacement works).

I read every single post in this thread and the AC Amplifier seems to be the only thing that has fixed the problem for good, so I'm crossing my fingers...

^ Does it happen every time you start the car or say after a long time sitting like overnight? Good that you trying the replacement, hope it works. A lot of these issues seem to be more Midwest/East Coast related.

Hi, please observe it for like a month and let us know. Also, if you can post how much is the cost and labor for the AC amplifier. Thanks!

Also, I have to add that I noted that if you try to start it from the first attempt, it will make the problem; but if you just touch it and turn the ignition back (without trying to start it) just make the engine move like 1 revolution and then (in the second attempt) you start it, it will start without a problem. Don't know why, but that's my case.

Well, here is an update from my cold start issue...its been just about a month since I replaced my battery...still going strong. Bought my battery from Costco and it starts up like a champ. I left the car in the garage for the thanksgiving holiday...about 5 days without starting it. Came back and started it with no issues. I am crossing my fingers that this was all that needs to be done to the car.

It happens after sitting for a long time (a few hours or more), cold weather or hot weather. As far as the cost, I'm about to barf. Infiniti just told me that replacing the AC Amplifier will be $764 and change. Is that crazy? Because I feel like it is... Thought somebody here had it done for around $380. Is anybody able to find the part number? I'd do it myself, especially because I painted the panel in front of it and don't want any scratches...

Is this the part?

Did it once to me a few days ago, although the car had been sitting over Thanksgiving. It doesn't get as cold in parking garage as outside, so that helps. I charged up my jump starter pack just in case.

it is too much to resolve something that the manufacturer should because as I see it is a manufacturingissue and should be a recall (or bulletin). Someone should contact Infiniti and also open a case in http://www.nhtsa.gov to make them understand that this is a common issue for this truck. I live in Puerto Rico (hot as hell) and it does it when sitting more than 12 hours... battery is 2 months old...

In for one too. 06 Fx not starting in the cold. I live in Nassau county NY. Changing battery soon

anyone know of good infiniti mechanics out here in nassau county NY

I still haven't bought the part and installed. Will hopefully do it soon though. I have a brand new battery, and it's still happening, which I assumed would be the case. I'll try to get this done soon.

Sat overnight for about 12 hours last night. It was below freezing for sure, because my washer fluid froze on my windshield...

Started up just fine, better than usual to be honest. I remembered I have the coolant to the TB shut off switch, and it's been closed. I don't think I opened it though, so maybe that isn't related.
