This problem should be remedied soon once I bring my FX over for my tune. My car was the original source for the FX rom.

OP, just my personal opinion of course but I'd take jbakers advice and look into the OEM spoiler kit. Personally I'd only use the front spoiler, I'm not a big fan of how the entire kit looks but the car looks great with just the front.

It's either a replica of the Vettel or nothing at all at this point. What can I say, I really don't like the look of the OEM kit.

You should have whoever rendered your avatar render you an FX with the stock AERO kit molded into the bumpers. It's what I had planned, as well as some fender flares, to give it that OEM+ look. You may actually like it. It takes away the "bolted-on" look you hate so much, but still complements the factory lines better than any kit I've seen.

Why do you keep gravitating towards my posts? Are you that lonely, socially isolated and desperate for attention... I don't want your worthless opinions, keep them to yourself.

Ausfx50s/jbaker1121, Please see my post on vettel replica thread before posting any further.

I think the idea of molding on the stock aero kit is actually a really good idea, it will eliminate the sharp indentations left where the two pieces mate and make everything look less "bolted on".

TBH There are tons of kits (like the rocket bunny for the FRS, or Liberty walk kits) who have rivets on the outside to make them look even more bolted on. Not saying this is a good look for the FX, but just saying the hate for "bolted on" parts is maybe a little unnatural.

Simply giving you another option - no hostility from my end.

jbaker1121, first infraction received.

Referencing AusFX50s hostile remarks directly violates my warning of even slightly referencing the other person in any way that could be deemed or interpreted negative OR feeds the other one negatively.

So, i'm going to try this again because i'm excited to share the changes i'm making to my car. Don't get the wrong impression of me, I simply don't take kindly to being terrorized or targeted.

The car went into a performance shop where we spent the day building a custom exhaust solution. Firstly the stock exhaust was removed and then the resonators. As pictured, straight pipes were fitted from the existing flange and painted black. Which leads to a set of X-Force Varex High performance mufflers which have an electronic butterfly mechanism inside. This allows me to change the exhaust note and volume as I see fit from inside the cabin. I also taped and painted the rear of the stainless steel muffler because it was simply to flashy, I'm going for a more subtle appearance...

All of the existing mounting points were used and the construction (straight pipes) will allow the future addition of two High flow spiral resonators if there's too much drone in the car...

Here's the finished product. The double-wall exhaust tips are much higher quality than the stock rolled pieces and extend a couple inches further out, I would have liked for them to be a little further in but there was not much room in there. There was an option to install the mufflers on a angle, but we decided against it for a number of reasons. Either way, I kinda like the tips extending out a little further now.

I'll try to upload some video's soon. I recorded some with my Galaxy S3 but the sound quality is not very good and there was a lot of noise in the workshop. I only had a couple of hours to drive the car before dropping it off at Infiniti the following day. They're having the car detailed meticulously with a cut and polish as per the sales agreement, tinting my front windows and applying the protection package to the entire car inside and out. This is what it's like to drive...

VAREX CLOSED: Quieter than stock, absolutely no drone, but a notably lower and smoother tone can be heard with the windows down. No change in performance at all.
VAREX OPEN: Very, very loud with some drone in the cabin. But it's a really attractive sound, it sound fantastic and the drone isn't annoying, but compliments the deep high performance V8 tone.

At this stage i don't think i'm going to install the spiral resonators, if i want it to be quiet with no drone all i have to do is close the valves; if it's open it's expected to be loud and the drone that comes with the volume is also expected. It truly is the best of both worlds! On the highway or with my girl in the car, subtle quiet luxury. When i'm by myself or if a guy in an X6m pulls up next to me; glorious glorious open straight pipes! :) Love it!

NEXT: When i get the car back from Infiniti it'll be going into the body shop to have all of the chrome and the wheels plasti-dipped a Satin Black which due to it's non-gloss nature does have a slight tint of gray to it which will match the existing body moldings and paint perfectly. Many people have said that the plasti-dip has a rough egg shell like texture yet i put that down to incorrect technique. My body shop guy and I did some tests and it looks smooth and awesome.

And, I've ordered my new licence plates ;)

20140219_154953e.jpg

After the plasti-dip and the licence plates, that will be the car finished. I'm completely disenfranchised from the idea of buying a body kit, here in Australia there are less than 100 of these cars on the road, and of that 100 there are only about 10 in my city. When people see this car, they have no idea what it is. So, the car is original enough as it is. Any additional styling is just going to take away from it's elegant appearance and turn it into something it's not. So, no kit for now. That'll do, that'll do.

Very interesting project. I like it.:good: One question... I see that you are still using the y-pipe configuration; why not switch to an x-pipe?

Hiya! We considered it. We concluded that having an X-Pipe wasn't going to make a noticeable difference in this setup. I didn't want to touch the upper exhaust system or cut any of the factory pipes, tampering with the upper section can in some cases have a profound effect on warranties. This system is a true bolt on, so when I sell the car it'll be as easy as removing the bolts from the first flange gasket after the catalytic converters and swapping the system over with the stock rear and mid section; which haven't been altered whatsoever.

I'll record some video's when I get the car back from Infiniti, but I can't guarantee that they'll be great. I'll be using my Galaxy S3, I don't own a video camera.

What does the switch look like and where is it mounted in the cabin? When you roll over to agressive free flow style can you feel a shift in power?

I didn't end up mounting a hard-wired switch because the space (pictured on page one) wasn't free at all in the FX50S. So there wasn't anywhere to put it without cutting something up, which I didn't want to do. But the system comes with a set of wireless remote's, just like a typical car key fob with two buttons; open and close. I just keep them in the centre console, does the job and this way I can change it from outside the car. There is a noticeable spike in performance when it's open, both in torque and power. It's not a night and day difference, but it's apparent. Yet, it might just be a placebo effect due to the absolutely outrageous sound it makes when it's open. It's weird going from 'quieter than stock' to completely 'free flow' in less than 1.5 seconds. Scares the shit out of pedestrians... Yay! And if the fuzz are around I can quickly shift back to stock. Sneaky, Sneaky!

So, turns out that the Infiniti dealership want's an identical exhaust system built for one of their demonstrator cars after they used my car (which was getting the windows tinted) to up-sell two people from FX37's to the FX50S...

Pretty funny. To show their gratitude they gave me a rear bumper protector. How nice of them. ;)

Here's the diagram I put together which is going to be used as a make-shift reference schematic for the seemingly inevitable local production-line.

The system looks great. Without resonators on there and the mufflers open all the way, isn't there unbearable drone on the highway? (or do you just open it up for accel then close it a bit for cruising?) I remember even with the muffler delete the drone got pretty annoying if you just wanted to cruise at low RPM. As for the dealer wanting a exhaust copy made, that's pretty cool too. Congrats, hopefully you're happy with the setup!

It's quite surprising actually, when the exhaust is closed drone is completely non-existent; yet even when it's open the design of the muffler tends to baffle out a great deal of the drone. The drone that is heard tends to be a tone that almost compliments the aggressive low note of the exhaust sound, it doesn't bother me at all; love it! When I'm driving on the highway the system is almost certainly closed, so there's no drone in that instance anyway. If for any reason I want whisper quiet cruising it only takes 1.5 seconds to close the butterfly valve, or I can leave it half open to find the best mixture between the two.

I'm likely going to have the high-flow spiral resonators installed on my system if only too see what difference it makes, I can always remove them if the effect makes the car to subtle when full open. It seems that I'm somewhat of a Guinea Pig in this instance.
