stick with OEMS...
OEM motor mounts installed last night. I had almost become accustomed to the solid mounts - the vibration was still noticeable, but over the past couple months I got used to it. Now that the OEM mounts are back in, it's like freakin butta. So soft and smooth. And quiet!!!
Once again, had to remove the exhaust manifolds to break the mount nuts. Tried to do it on the lift without removing the manifold and couldn't get the wrench on the nut. Just not enough access. While the manifolds were off, they were heat-wrapped. Wouldn't have done that if the manifolds weren't already coming off.
The feel of the motor mounts and the sound deadening of the wrap (unexpected) has totally inspired me to follow up on other mods that play on the luxury feel of the FX. Specifically, I now want to try dynamat (or equivalent) inside all the door panels and in the trunk for engine/outside sound isolation. But that's a new thread.
I hear ya. But I figure with a TT, the weight won't matter so much. Also with boost, I bet things are a little bit louder and could use the sound and vibration dampening. My goal has always been to make the FX into more of what I love about it and the luxury feel is definitely part of that.
yeah i was going to do the entire dynomat thing but it ends up costing $$ and gets heavy when you start slapping it on
Good info - thanks. I'd certainly like to eliminate vibrations - both from the stereo and from road noise. But I am looking for that, "insulated" feeling - less ambient noise in general. If dynamat is not the solution, are there alternatives to do what I'm looking for?
My experience with Dynamat was very different than Shadow - The insulation absolutely reduced road noise, engine and exhaust noise in my FX. Covering the firewall just at the driver's feet made a big difference due to the new Forced Induction exhaust routed and collected in front of the driver. I have not done the whole interior but plan to continue insulation until it is finished. Each section I do immediately improves the interior feel.
Engine mounts - absolutely stay with OEM. Do not change to aftermarket mounts. There will be no benefit to aftermarket mounts with your planned power levels. The OEM mounts MIGHT wear out a bit faster than usual, but a lot of that depends on your driving. Trust me on this one - don't put solid motor mounts in the FX.
I never did much research on the tranny mount. Mine is still OEM. If you do go with something different - let me know how it feels!
Seriously - jump on that. $150 assumes maybe an hour and a half of work and it took me closer to six hours for both sides. Good price for labor if you ask me.
