2003-2008 FX In Cabin Filter Change

Is there a specific way the filter needs to be placed?

I remember reading somewhere about the raised tab things on the inside, and the filter is supposed to sit on top? Is that true?

If it is, your DIY write up will be tested after work for a redo.

Even though this is for FX 09+, see step 13. I think that's what was meant.

Thanks for the write up, it took no longer then 15 mins. I ending up using the Fram Fresh Breeze filter. I didn't disconnect any wires. Glove box was hanging sitting on my cordless drill box. Just maneuvered the glove box when removing the old filter and sliding the new filter in at an angle.

However, I had to realign the filter again as shown in the link above STEP 13. Make sure the filter was sitting above the 4 tabs on the plastic cover. I was wondering why the white plastic cover was pressing up against the filter and a tight fit. DUHH!!!

Nice Write - up but i made a noob move of unplugging the airbag and when I put everything back together my airbag light is blinking. I disconnected the battery and it still did not reset. Any suggestions or info on this. Also i sprayed my cabin filter with my favorite cologne and it lasted for a week and made my car smell amazing.

If it lit caused by you, it is safe to reset it. If it comes by itself or unknown reason I would take it in for had it check out though. If you wanted to reset it, follow the steps below. The instruction had helped me reset the air bag light that caused by me start up the car with the seat belt SRS connector disconnected.

Here is where I found the instructions from, but the link no long works. I have saved the instructions, see below.

If your airbag light is flashing because something random might have happened while you were working on the car then you can follow the following process to reset the computer. Auto-Talk recommends taking the car to the dealer to avoid any injury. However sometimes you know that airbag light came on because of some random mistake and you do not want to pay $100 for a rest so this is what you can do.
Ignition Key Method:
1) Turn IGNITION on (but don't start car)
2) After the AIR BAG warning lamp lights for 7 seconds, turn IGNITION off within 1 second.
3) Wait 4 seconds
4) Turn IGNITION on (but don't start car)
5) After the AIR BAG warning lamp lights for 7 seconds, turn IGNITION off within 1 second.
6) Wait 4 seconds
7) Turn IGNITION on (but don't start car)

9) Wait 4 seconds
10) Turn IGNITION on (but don't start car)
11) Wait 3 seconds

13) Wait 2 seconds
14) START Car (the light may be blinking slower than before)

17) Wait 3 seconds

I think the same instructions give you unlimited lives in Contra. :)

I decided to change my filter since taking ownership. I found it to be really easy. What I didn't expect is for the filter to be so far gone. The material on top was stuck in the door portion where the filter was jammed into. This filter shape is exactly how I pulled it out. It's safe to say that my FX is in a far better place than previously.

holy crap...I changed mine after 15k miles and it looked nothing at all like the above....wow

It looked like some sort of noise dampening insulation or something. Considering it is just a simple thing to change it was quite a train wreck of a filter.

has anyone put an air freshener where the filter goes? Would there be anything bad with doing that besides having to change it every so often?

You would restrict the airflow some.. Why not douse the whole thing with your favorite cologne ;-)

That's what I did^ it smelled amazing in my car for about a month and a half and after that u still smell the cologne a little but not that much.

i broke the left side tab of the filter cover door, do you guys recommend duct taping the gap so no dirty air gets through that hole? it doesnt sit flush and seems like air can escape, or will closing the glovebox make the cover sit snug??
