2003-2008 FX In Cabin Filter Change

So out of the FRAM and the Filter Master, which one would you recommend? I see that the FRAM is a little less expensive, but they are both Carbon Filter, correct?

Would the 2009 OEM Grape Polyphenol Filter fit. Heard they work excellent and would be a nice upgrade.
 
Not sure, they do look similar by comparing the two diys... but the only real way is to buy it and test it out. You could always sell it to a 2gen'r if it doesn't fit.
 
I just replaced my air filter using these instructions. In and out in less than 10 minutes. thanks for the write up.
 
Dealer wanted $68 to do this. I just laughed at them. Told him I could get the filters for 20 bucks, and he tried to explain about how it's below the glove box or something. I had stopped listening by this point.

Also, isn't the filter located behind the battery? I noticed some filter back there when putting in the new battery. Hate to have my battery send acid into the cabin filter...

The air intake is in the battery compartment, but the filter itself in my fx is located behind the glove box, on the cabin side of the firewall. It's a super easy swap regardless. The glove box drops out with a few screws. I would pay $10, maybe $15. $60+ is absurd.

Btw, my original battery started leaking just before it died which sent a lovely sulfuric acid smell straight into that cabin filter intake. Yet another benefit of sealed/gel batteries...

09 Filters are about 1/2 to 1 inch longer than gen 1. filters would not be a direct fit replacement

might be able to cut to fit, but I imagine you would want a nice tight fit in there.
 
Nice write up fxlr8. I just replaced the cabin filter myself thanks to these instructions. Pretty easy to do with the instructions. I also didn't take out the side kick panel since it was not coming out very easily. In fact I cracked it since I was pulling so hard on it!
 
Awesome DIY...i too didnt know about the cabin filter...and everytime i switched the A/C on it smelt musty...so i decided to try this out...heres what i found when i took out the filter...

I ended up wiping out the housing and taking out the fan/motor and cleaned out all the filth...popped in a new filter (napa) and no more musty smell....

Thanks for the awesome DIY!!! Made it really easy...:smug:

Good writeup! Whoever did this last messed some stuff up though. One of the plates was kinda broken.
 
Just did it using these instructions, I had the filter for over a year but was just too lazy. Then I took it to the dealer to have the dash warrantied and they said it needed to be changed and quoted me...$120. After spending 15 minutes doing it, I'm not quite sure where on earth they got the labor charge from.
 
Did that finally myself last month, just to discover that there was no filter at all, and looking at dealership paperwork they charged the previous owner for that part and service. One more reason to not trust or pay overpriced service fees!
 
Finally did it myself. Did not feel like paying the dealership $100+ for them to do it. It was an easy job to do and all you have to do is have patience.
