Wax brand preference?

Good choice.

I knew Wayne would respond to a Zaino post! :)

Maybe I'll just wait until you come here so I can see, feel and smell it in person ;)

Stop pretending like you are going to start cleaning your car. People that live in downtown Chicago 98th penthouse floor don't clean their own cars.

What is exact name of the zaino product/products that you use Wayne?

There are many Zaino products, but here are the ones I use;

For a Sealant , I use Zaino Z2. It is best for lighter colored cars and Z5 is better for darker colored cars.

For washing the car I use Zaino Z7 Car Wash

For a Detailing Spray, I use Zaino Z6 Gloss Enhancer Spray

The Zaino Z2 a sealant and wax?

It is actually a sealant John. Some of my friends will topcoat it with their favorite wax for a bit more depth and shine.

Im about to order the z2 and the all in one wax. I figure i use the all in one first and then the z2.

Wayne do you use Z2 and then Z6 right after or vice versa? Or am I wrong because I'm getting mixed opinions online

Rip, here is the instructions from the Canadian Zaino web site. I do just as it says after I clay bar and wash the car. Remember to only use a little Z2 , it goes a long way. I only give it one coat, then if you want you can give it another coat the following day or a few days later.

"

  • Spray a little Z-6 Gloss Enhancer™ on your Polish Applicator pad. Apply Zaino polish to the paint. Use up/down motions on vertical surfaces, and front/rear (front to back of car) motions on horizontal.
  • Allow the polish to dry and chemically bond on the entire car for at least fifteen minutes. To test for dry, wipe an area with a finger. Dry polish is slightly powdery and comes off with one stroke, revealing clear dry paint underneath. Low temperature or high humidity can increase drying time up to two to three hours. Remove the dried polish using high quality towels.
  • When all polish is removed, spray a light coat of Z-6 Gloss Enhancer. Immediately buff dry."

I just use the Z6 to lubricate the applicator pad when applying the sealant.
Once the sealant is all buffed off the car then you can use the Z6 Gloss enhancer by spraying a bit on each panel and drying it off with a micro fiber as you go.
I love the Z6, I use it to detail the car when I'm on the road and I always use it after I wash and dry the car. I even do the outside of the windows with it and lighting.

Personally I change up the waxes I use depending on a couple things.

1) where I am in my annual wax cycle

2) what method I am using to apply the product

3) how clean is the surface of the paint

The original question was really about favorite waxes (not sealants). But most professional detailers will tell you you should wash and clay before using a Sealant, which should be allowed to cure before applying a wax.

So Once a year I wash, clay, polish and seal the paint. Usually about 24 hours after I apply the sealant, I go for what I consider to be a long lasting sacrificial wax layer - Collinite 845, applied by machine, removed by hand.

During the year I try to wash my car once every two weeks. After a leaf blower dry job, I'll apply Meguire's NXT 2.0 paste wax by machine, removed by hand.

If I am limited on time and can't do a water & bucket wash, I'll use a waterless wash, which is spray on and wipe off. Then I'll follow with XMT 360 Spray Wax because it is fast and spreads easily. There really isn't any removal - I just keep application buffing till it's gone, sort of like a quick detailer.

As you would expect, the liquid wax looks great but doesn't last that long. The Paste wax works perfectly between washes, the water beads all the way through until I wash it the following time. Not exactly sure how long it would last if I didn't wash it. From my experience and reading a lot online, Collinite 845 is one of those products they got right more than 75 years ago. So little product works so well and lasts so long... and the price is hard to beat. If I could have only one wax, this would be it.

Good write-up Jumbo. I have heard many good things about the Collinite wax. I have often considered a top coat over my Zaino Z2 with the Collinite wax. the only thing that stops me is I can't give it another coat of Z2 over the wax unless I clay bar again and I only like to clay the car once per season.

I'm surprised that you don't have the Zaino Z8 Grand Finale Spray in your arsenal ?? I'd usually use the Z2 for my day to day " upkeep " but whenever I want that extra pop ( like before a date night ) I'd most certainly apply the Z8 as well !!

You mean you use Z6 for day to day and Z8 for special occasions.
I've thought of trying the Z8, but as you said Z2 is great for regular use and if I had Z8 I would probably be using it all the time and for me the added expense for a just a bit more pop would be a waste.

Yes I meant Z6 actually rather than Z2 ......... the Z8 is quite pricey however for that extra pop or shine I feel it's well worth it IMHO ! I guess using it all the time would get costly when you already have the Z6.

Heck, if you notice that much difference maybe I'll try a bottle of Z8 next time I order.
