The Random Question Thread

the only thing that makes the smell "go away" is the precious metals that are embeded in the cells of the cats, aftermarket cats do not use anywhere near enough which is why they are so cheap compared to OE cats. factory cats are 2 stage, first is coated with platinum and rhodium, second is coated with platinum and palladium. very expensive raw materials

What is it that make HFC's work? Different better materials?
Are there baffles in there like a muffler? Is it like a filter that gets clogged with particles over time?

it's a chemical reaction from the catalyst, nothing wears out and nothing gets clogged unless a car is running very poorly or burning a whole lot of oil. leaded fuel will also clog them up easily, otherwise they should last indefinately, nothing is consumed, it would have to be either physical damage or a really bad running engine

Hey Pork, don't do it man, it's nasty. rotten egg smell. I did that to my Z, dude it sounded so damn loud. Not at all like a ricer, just toooooo loud. You might actually love the sound, specially upon start up but I swear it will get annoying real soon. Go with resonated straights at least. some help there than no help at all.

pork---- too bad you aren't in Chicago to make Andy's pork bbq meet! :((

Funny you mention it. I would have been flying into Chicago this weekend for work, but had to change the plans months ago. Otherwise, this would have coincidentally been the exact time I'd be there.

The cat-delete was just a passing thought as I was thinking about resonator-delete. I don't like changing things that mess too much with factory engineering. It's important to me to keep this car reliable/commuter/professional/family friendly. (Hence, codes are unacceptable. Rich gas smell I kinda like. Rotten eggs, not so much.) With that being said, I'm toying with the idea of increasing the tone a bit. My preference leans towards a deep V8 muscle car throaty sound. Flowmaster is my top preference for the right sound, but I don't want it quite that loud. I haven't heard of any FX guys doing Magnaflow, which should be a little quieter than Flowmaster, and still keep the right sound. Is there any Magnaflow experience out there?
Just looking for a simple muffler swap. No full exhaust. (Even though Logan's is REAL tempting!)
That's how I looked upstream to the resonator and then to the cat question. I'm definately off cats now and back to resonator or muffler.

Does anyone know what happens if you use a 2006+ gauge clusterthat doesn't have adaptive cruise control in a 2003-2005 FX45? Does it not show up, but still work? etc.

Thanks!

Anybody-

How do u take the engine cover off the 2nd gen. We removed 2 bolts from the back but still won't come off. Anybody know?

yes, my first cluster didn't have radar cruize but my fx does. it works but you get no distance display like the 1 2 & 3 distance and it doesn't display the mph set to, but it still works, just count the presses to determine distance set

Pull up on the front of the cover to release the two pressure fit pins, one side at a time, then pull forward to slide the two off in the rear attached to the grommets:wink (2):
HA figured it out, just posting it up for future people.

I think paining the trim works on certain colors, I agree not all trim painted FXs look good, this one however just like Logan's looks really sharp!

Why is that?
actually u pointed it out urself on fx4BR's garage.. "the painted lowers and well lips give the body a lot of mass".. BUTT, i do like and am very interested in having something done with the front trim and having it painted similar to urs.. it flows very well especially if im maintaining the side and rear trim unpainted
