The Random Question Thread

Hey guys, ive been riding with a crooked steering wheel for a while. After getting a alignment at a really good tire shop, i came home and tightened the rack bolt, after this the steering got messed up.
I was under the car today and i had the front 2 tires off the ground hence i didnt hear any clunking. So i was wondering what keeps the steering straight the toe? outer tie rod or inner?

If your wheels are parallel and the steering wheel isn't straight, then you can adjust it where the steering shaft interfaces the rack. Remove the bolt, pop the shaft out of the rack, straighten the steering wheel, then slide the shaft back into the rack and replace the bolt. I had to do this very job to install my headers. There's a good pic of the situation in my header DIY thread.

isn't that shaft keyed though? almost all are, either a flat area on the shaft and a D shaped receiver hole or sometimes just 2 splines Siamese'd and a wide corresponding slot on the receiver. don't think you can just clock it spline by spline.

Maybe. I just know that i was able to slide it in, notice that my mark was off, clock it one spline over and reinstall. Not sure if the bolt would have threaded fully with the misalignment...

yeah, might be that the bolt wouldn't go all the way through to the threads with it off now that I think about it, a C notch in the shaft for the bolt that will only go all the way through when inserted correctly. I'm not sure myself but almost all I've ever touched were keyed in some way...

Whats up? I was just wondering if anyone here knows how to remove the sideview mirror covers and if possible can this be done without pulling off the whole sideview mirror assembly? I looked on here but couldnt find a DIY for it. I want to have them repainted but dont want to remove the whole assembly if its possible, thanks!

Hey guys, I have the stock 20's on my FX I noticed that they sit inside the fender a little in the front. If I was to get spacers to make them flush what would be a good size and would I have to or should I get them for the rear also?

Some people go 20 rear and 25 front as the rears tuck in 5mm less and seem happy

whats the cover thats wrapped in carpet inside the trunk located behind the wheel wells for( one on each side? how do you open it?

Ok well I just ordered the 25mm for the front and rear. I hope they look good and dont poke out to much, I dont want picnic benches... lol

Where did you order the spacers from? I ordered my spacers from b2autodesign a vendor here and can't wait to get the, to finally get a flush with the 21" rims.

What size spacers did you order Ocal?

Is the wheels offset on the 21's greater than the 1st gen wheels?

Are there any type of wheel spacers that are a direct bolt on for the fx? I've seen videos where ppl just directly bolt on the spacer and the spacer has studs on it already so you can directly put the rim on and it has the same effect. Is there any spacer made for the fx like this or is the only way to put on a spacer by removing the rotor and everything? Thank you
