The Random Question Thread

You have to use special heat resistant insulation for that spot. Jumbo has the dynamat version iirc.

Got it. I was hoping to carefully pop off the retainer rings, cut pieces of the dynamat to fit inside the triangles then replace the OE padding (stealth insulation).

I would worry about the adhesive losing function in the extreme temperature fluctuations of the engine bay, but there's only one way to find out... Also, I think the "padding" under there is actually heat insulation, so you may find standard sticky sound suppresive stuff sufficient.

Going to have to try and remove it then =) Also planning on dynamating the engine bay side of the plastic wheel liner to kill some of the intake sound.

Hahah come on man, your beast is made to scream now.

Any concerns on the dynomat reflecting the heat back (if not stealth install) or retaining it under the hood, making the engine bay even hotter?

Figuring not if the rocket scientist did it to his car.

Hah - That's what I was thinking, if Jumbo did it it must be okay.

Here's a pic of Jumbo's hood-liner. I does sort of look like it's stuck to the hood, so maybe the regular stuff will work...? It could be that the "Hoodliner" product is just one huge piece so you don't have visible seams. If that's the case and you're going to hide it behind the oem padding, then I'd definitely use the regular insulation.

Nah. Forget the insulation. You should be going of the vented style hood complete with side vents. At least you have something to show for it ;)

Does anyone have a shot of how a oem muffler mounts up to the FX? I have a 3rd hanger on my GReddy (it runs parallel to the chasis and points towards the front of the car) thats not in use. Trying to determine if i'm missing a rubber mount of if this hanger is for G35 only. thanks!

Circled the hanger in red:

Nismo seems to have the same. An OEM muffler from an FX is proving hard to find.

And my exhaust has it.

I have an OEM muffler sitting around at home but at school right now. My right exhaust tip is an inch lower than the left. Hoping that this mystery hanger will correct the problem

Thanks to Ed for this pic, you can see the hanger in the bottom rightish corner.

Yep, i'm missing the rubber hanger that screws onto the silver plate. Woot hopefully this solves the problem...

Thanks stu, you rock!

Pat, I have the feeling that the missing rubber for the hanger will not solve to the leveling problem. I spent enough time there try to level mine at one point playing with different length rubber hangers. I ended up taken it to the shop, they heat up the elbow that comes out of the muffler and bent the tail pipe to level the tips. The bad is that the area they heat up will discolor, but it not noticeable at all from side and beats the unlevel tips look a 1000X over.

Pat, you could find out for sure by just seeing if pushing on the muffler (so that rod goes where the hanger should be) makes it line up better.

Thats why they call you Handy Andy! I just came back from installing a hanger there but no success. First problem is the rubber hanger i used could not fit the exhaust hanger through the hole, so i enlarged it with a knife. Then i noticed the cheapo autozone exhaust rubber was way too weak.

Does anyone have rubber hangers that they recommend that will fit in that location (See picture below)? Or do you think if i dont run a rubber there the exhaust should be okay? its pretty rock solid and doesnt move around.

Next time... get shop to heat up the piping. I need an indoor garage!

Coat the hanger rod with gease will make the insertion a lot easier :wink (2):
I know what you mean without it...it pretty solid without it, but I just feel more comfy knowing all four corners are hung.
