Ya i just saw your fx parked outside the shop. Wow another month without your baby that sucks!!

Keep an eye on her, J!

Yeah it does sorta blow, but I was starting to get tired of the unfinished state of things. I'm glad it's back in to the shop so it can finally finish up.

Sharing the wife's Tahoe this week - might have to rent a car for a couple weeks to take the pressure off the fam.

Man i've being fallowing this thread very closely.. All I have to say is you are a Patient man.. I can't wait for you to post a video of the 1/4 mile time by the Red beast..

Anyways hope you get your FX up and running normaly so you can enjoy it!!

And I thought having kids teaches patience. So does getting a custom job done on the FX. Guess this is my first experience with a project like this so I shouldn't be surprised, but both cost and schedule continues to creep pretty much every day.

I learned to save about twice the money you THINK you will need (plus a bit more for "upgrades") and also plan on multiple shop stays. Having another DD or a spare car would have been the only thing I would do different the second time around.

That and going with a kit rather than a custom job. I'm not sorry I went custom but there was a lot of figuring things out and fixing small things that would have been addressed by a kit, saving all kinds of time and money. Knowing what I know now, I would recommend the JWT TT kit to anybody wanting to take the FX to Forced Induction.

But know this - if you go with a kit like that, my FX will spank yours.

haha, yeah, patience... think having to wait as a shop does a custom build is bad?, imagine trying to do it yourself in your spare time

John when it come to patient you are a Monk.. Making your own custom build and making adjustment as you go.. That takes a lot of patient..

The only thing I can imagine to keep one going is the sweet outcome of it..

+1 On the money

+1 on the kit

Damn i am in exactly the same positon right now. Thought i just buy an extra engine with Turbonetics kit and final. Ohh well the guy added a extra GT35R and there i went.......full custom now and built motor.....damn......and those costs :err:
I saw a HKS Supercharger kit for 4K last time i checked there website.....if only i knew....

Jumbo...hope you will be fine buddy.....have a few questions for you:

1) I understood the stock ECU needs to be flashed first to higher the Rev limiter as otherwise the haltech can't do that function. Is that why you kept the osiris...??

2) Do you still run the OEM Final gearing...?? And how is your exeriance with that. I find our gears quit long and even with the RWD even longer. Shorter Final gears like 3.7 and 3.9 might be way to short for fast highway driving, but fun for traffic light sprints. What your opnion having driven the car.

3) you said the new radiator might not be needed but prior you said you had collant issues......what is the status on that

4) And how about your fuel......planning on going for bigger injectors.....or staying with the GTR's

Thanks,

Ray.

4) And how about your fuel......planning on going for bigger injectors...or staying with the GTRs?

----------

1) The Haltech computer is pass-through, meaning that the OEM ECU still has some control, but the Haltech takes over at certain points and sends dummy signals to the OEM ECU to make it think everything is operating normally. To tune the set-up properly, I think you need the ability to tune both the Haltech and the OEM ECU. Osiris is one of the only options I have so that's what I went with.

2) The gearing is fine - I would not change it. I do a lot of highway driving so I will not want to sacrifice highway fuel efficiency for mid-range improvements. The 35R turbo efficiency map is in the mid rpm range for the VQ35, so with a smaller final drive you would be pushing even MORE heat/wear into the already limiting transmission.

3) The coolant issues went away after all the air was removed from the system and I replaced a leaky radiator cap (Nismo knock-off!!!). Since then, the coolant has stayed where it is supposed to stay.

4) I decided to stay with the GTR injectors and have the shop tune for maximizing the duty cycle of the injectors WITH an appropriate margin of safety. I expect the final number to be somewhere between 430 - 475whp.

I already bought the KOYO radiator & Nismo T-stat and plan to install anyway, for extra insurance and maybe a little future proofing. I overbuilt the motor and sized the fuel system and turbo with the limiting transmission in mind. With a proper tune I should be able to push as hard as the car will allow me without breaking anything. Not talking about a track car - just a beast of a daily driver.

:ninja: ___ DISCLAIMER ___ :ninja:

If for some reason the transmission does fail, then I will look to the Speedforceracing's built 5AT for the G35 that claims to hold 750whp. At that point (as long as the FX is down again) I would consider bigger injectors AND a bigger turbine housing with a new tune. The goal would then be 550 - 600whp.

Problem with that is
built tranny - $3000
Turbine housing - $1400
Injectors - $1200
Tune - $400
Install & Labor - $1000 ???

so that would be ANOTHER $6000, which is approaching the cost of a JWT TT kit, just for another 100whp?

But as I said - that's only if my current built transmission blows up.:bomb:

Just a question bro if you don't mind me asking.. What's the damage($$$) up to this point this custome build have done?

even with a fully built motor?
do we have power numbers on yours yet

My motor is fully built already - capable of 650whp with the right turbo. Limitation is the transmission and the heavy FX drivetrain. We all have that - unless you do a manual swap.

$20K for parts, fabrication & labor. Took me three years to save up (and convince my wife this was the same as getting a new car). Nice part is - no car payment.

Damn.. You most be a smooth talker!!! Lol thanks for answering..

I see your point of view.. If you like the car you have why buy a new one. Might as well improved the crap out of it and keep it for more years to come..

sweet, I'll check it out.
I was just going by your claim: here's my $.02
20k including JWT+ engine build is about 600hp safe.
JWT kit with proper tune (9kish) is about 420 safe with no engine build....
just saying I'm not sure about the "spanking":confused.:

edit: vid is sweet, nice powerband...Time for some lighter wheels:tup:
