FX45 electric fan conversion

Yes, I'm using the OEM radiator. By process of elimination we have narrowed it down to an improper ground for the temp sensor, yesterday. Your statement really solidifies what happened in the pic above and the only thing left to check; the ground for the sensor. Thanks K. :search:

So have you put on that extra grounding strap like we have talked about in one of Lance's pix?

First, I would like to say how impressed I've been with this site/forum. I've only owned my FX45 for about three months and I've already picked up a number of great recommendations on parts and information on how to complete various modifications.

As many that own or have owned the FX45 the standard clutched fan never seemed right to me so when I saw this thread I was happy to see there was a relatively simple solution that retained a somewhat factory look to the install.

I'd like to undertake this modification, however there are a number of the pictures from the first page that no longer show up and was wondering if anyone who has detailed photos on their install would be willing to re-post them so I and anyone new like myself can see what steps were taken and how it looks. If possible I'd really appreciate.

As well, I'm curious if anyone who is in Canada has tried doing this and if so which parts supplier did they find the best. Obviously we don't have as many available to us as the guys in the states so I've found it somewhat frustrating to find the exact pieces described. Once again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks!

Bryan

Another feature I like this mod was the fan runs for a programmable duration after the car is off via the Dakota fan controller module!

Sorry to bring up a old thread but i figured it would be better then another thread on this topic. When you do the conversion is there any changes to the belt? also I am really interested in doing this mod but you guys know of any shops or anyone who can give me a hand in NJ? thanx in advance

I'm sure you can wire the Dakota fan module to bypass input from the temp sensor, but the fan will be on constantly. What are you trying to achieve?

The shop that did my UPRev Tune switched the fan on 24/7.

They said its pretty quiet, and just plain better. I asked him if it would reduce the life of the fans, he said probably, but he has yet to see a fan go for that reason. Usually they bust cause of a broken blade, or accident.

is there a write up on how to do this conversion? i have looking didnt really come across anything solid.

has anyone run into the problem of the lower radiator hose interfering with the drivers side fan? i unplugged the drivers fan and it still ran cool in 90 deg weather!

Hey guys, I know this is a old thread, but I didnt want to start a new one because my question is related to the conversion.

But I dont know how to do the wiring. Im getting ready to order all the needed parts, but I have no ideal on how to wire it up.

I also looked at the forums at the ORG and it also does not explain how to wire it up. Im pretty sure its fairly simple, but I dont know where the a/c clutch cycle wire is at, when it say connect to a fused 12v I dont know how many amp fuse to use, chedman13 said he used a glass fuse and on the ORG it looked like a forum member used a fuse box with I dont know what type a fuse. On the ORG one of the pics showed a wire going to a fuse on the factory fuse box but it didnt say what fuse was that or what that wire was. What wire did you guys used to get the 12v with key on? ON chedman13 and logan I see in the pic you two cut off the clip that comes with the fan and its tapped into another set of wires, but I dont know what set of wires are they, the relay? Does it matter which fan gets the 70amp relay and which one gets the 30amp? When I get the dual fan assembly, which fan is the high and which one is the low? Where did you guy ground the wires at?

Im sorry but wires is not my strong suit, I can hook up a deck because all the wires I need to connect is right in front of me on one harness. If anyone can help with the wiring process it will be greatly appreciated. Might as well ask what size drill bit did you guy use to dill out the hole for the temp sensor while im at it, so i can get it right the first time. I need to change out my original fan because there are cracks on it and might as well do this conversion.

Also Logan did you get the Action Crash Radiator Fan Assembly; Platinum Part Number: 17911-04011213 or the APDI Radiator Fan Assembly Part Number: 17911-05339896 from parts geek? I know I read that you dont remember, but hopefully seeing the names might jog your memory.

I will be using Dakota Digital PAC-2750. Pretty much just looks like a new model of the 2700. thanks again

I checked out the pics of the very nice looking fx45. Probably about the same amount of wiring that goes into hooking up a head unit, except its not all bunched together. Definitely still want to tackle the project rather than find some shop and pay them 300+ dollars or replace my fan on the stock clutch fan. I just need some light to be shed on the wiring, like the location of which wires was tapped into and the type of fuse used, the amp of the fuse, etc, etc. Any help would be great so i can get it right the fist time
thanks again

No one? Is it because a lot of the members dont really frequent this site anymore? Or is it because its a secret? Are you too busy to shed some light on the wiring la_fx35? if i was in the Chicago area i wouldnt mind paying you for your time to install it, but im all the way here in san francisco.

Hey there is no need for all the witty comments. Simply a "bump", "no one?", or "hello?" on the post would do just fine as a quick refresher/reminder so that the post is up on my "new post" list to read up.

Anyhow, take look at the picture below to find where I tab into for +12V in Run/On position to hookup the +12V battery (fused) and Ignition wire for the Dakota controller. A 10A glass fuse in it own holder is plentiful for the controller. The connector picture behind the driver knee panel near the steering column.

As for the A/C clutch connection, I don't remember. I'll look it up for you.

To power the fan, take 12V source directly from the positive battery terminal. I use a 40A glass fuse with a 4 AWG wire like the link below. The fuse holder for the fan fuse I use is not ideal as it is expose to high temperature in the engine bay. I would suggest use other type of holder that a bit more durable to the heat and water proof. I'm looking for such holder myself. Post up if you find a good durable and water proof holder.

To ground the fan and controller, you can use body ground or ground it directly to the negative battery terminal.

thank you :worship:la_fx35. I will be ordering the parts next week. i was wondering if moving the fuse holder that is taken directly from the positive battery to power the fan into the compartment where the battery is stored a good ideal? water doesnt really get into there and its not as hot as other places in the engine bay.
