Jumbo Boost

Damn sometimes i cannot come up with the tech words in english, but were is your air sensor in the piping. Can't seem to find it on the pic.
Looking good BTW.........enjoy buddy....!!

Lookin' good!

Ceramic coating will keep the intake piping from getting hot as it goes over the turbo, right?

It will help, yes. All the turbo piping will also get coated (under the intake) to help keep heat in the pipes.

No air sensor. The MAF was removed. The Haltech computer uses IAT (intake air temperature) instead of Mass Air Flow. We purchased that sensor as part of the Engine Management System kit.

I thought using the Haltech the maf still need to be somewhere in place for the 5AT. GL with break in! :smile (2):

Thanks - it's going well so far and I'm half way there after only two days. The base maps on the tune used were from the G35 that used parts of the same setup. That's actually the G35's BOV in the photos. I'm borrowing it until we get everything coated, then my BOV will be a new black one.

No MAF in this set-up. This is the 350Z PnP EMS and these are the part numbers I ordered for the Haltech set-up:

Platinum Pro ECU/Harness System - HT053001
Wideband controller and sensor - HT010704
GM style intake air temp system - HT010200
Haltech boost control system - HT020400
ECU supplemental pins (2 units) - HT030050

The IAT is used in place of the MAF, which is currently sitting in the "OEM parts" box in my garage. :nerd (2):

Wideband controller....can you see that data somewhere in your car also or just when doing a tune.
I'm trying to fgure out if the wideband controller from haltech can be mounted on to say the HKS Camp2 wich i'm going for or Other wideband gauges.
You still want to monitor these datas yourself knowing all is well.......

Monitoring is still TBD for me. No decisions yet, no hardware purchased.

Hi jumbosrule, I am the same as you. I want having fun with a car. I want to spend all day long so that I enjoy my trip. I want to see your car. Can you post it here?

ceramic coating would def help on the pipe that runs across the radiator to avoid reheating the air that just got cooled by the intercooler. even a half round aluminum heat shield might be something I'd consider there, or shrouding of the radiator outlet to below the pipe. congrats bro, she def looks sweet. I'm jelous, I wish mine was running again:frown: hopefully soon:err:

so did the turbo mounting add much vibration?

Here are the latest photos of my FX:

I want your FX up and running almost as bad as you do! Haven't had any updates in a while - sup? What's the sticking point?

So I really don't think my application warrants a bunch of shrouding or heat shields. We are protecting hoses and lines near the turbo & exhaust, but the intake air temperature was 89 degrees while outside air was 87 degrees after 30 minutes of driving. We had a computer hooked in to monitor everything during the shakedown drive. At the very least I won't have the shop do this - it is something I might play with DIY at home.

As for the turbo vibe, it is still TBD. Right now there are several things about the setup that are temporary and while I absolutely feel more vibration than I would like, we are thinking it is actually from a hard-mounted exhaust component. When all the pipes come out for coating and then go back in, I have instructed the shop to concentrate on full isolation of the exhaust system. We might add dampening to the turbo mount to start, but will attack one rattle at a time.

With the exhaust manifolds collecting immediately in front of the firewall and the downpipe routed there too, there is significantly more engine noise. Now completing a full interior Dynamat is more of a priority - after we take care of any engine/turbo vibrations.

Also something wich i was doubting on.......Haltech or Fcon......what do you advise rookie...??

fcons are usually locked by the tuner so you have to go back to the same tuner or start all over. Depends on your relationship with whoever does the work on your car. Haltech is a bit more user friendly I think, you can go in and look things over and make adjustments without a device like the fcon programming usb key which is only available to hks pro/fcon authorized dealers.

I have considered a haltech, but in the end. My car runs great and has bene for the past few years with the work technosquare has done so I don't feel a need to change what works. Multiple maps and stuff are appealing, even using osiris would be more flexible than my current tune. But I make 600+ plus on pump so whats to complain about... I don't even drive the thing anymore. :mad.:

yeah, personally I like to play with things myself so I'd never consider something like the Fcon unless I could get my own key, but, if your not the type that would ever play with your own tune & just leave it all to the tuner anyway then I guess that's not as much of a factor... I went haltech cause I wanna play with it & tune it myself.

brad, far as my build goes, I got royally screwed with my headers... they took me no lie 100 hours to build with the motor going in & out many times, but then, after the motor was final installed I had them professionally tig welded for me & they just weren't done right & now there just ruined. I got really busy at the shop & had to make up for all that got pushed back while I did the build too, so I just never had the time to redo them... sucks I need to redo what was already done. it was hard enough to find the time to do it the first go round, finding the time to redo it has been a challenge... hopefully soon, I have a restoration going out of my shop in a week or 2 & I'm hoping I can get the fx back here when that leaves...

You don´t drive it anymore....?? Why is that...?? New projekt or new projekt on the FX...??
Thing is i believe that technosquare works as well, but you have to be able to go there and do a custom tune on there dyno. I talked to tadashi and he told me he was able to do the "turbonetics" tune, but thing is i'm going to run a different turbo, injectors and maybe cams so need to be adjusted. And even though they can change that is still believe tuning on the dyno would be best.
Or do you think tadashi i capable, cause going true him would save me a lot of money..

Got werd from the shop this evening. I'm going to pick up the FX tomorrow. They sent me a teaser dyno, but have not completed tuning yet.

The bottom line was my bolt-on, tuned NA FX. The top line was a tuning run from today.

Here's what the shop had to say:

"Timings good and healthy, AFRs are alright till spark blows out and then it goes pig rich obviously. I'll be stopping at 450whp for the sake of the trans. Assuming a conservative 20% drivetrain loss that means your producing roughly 560hp at the crank in a 100+ degree shop. I'll be setting your compensation maps up to be very very conservative as i'll want to do a clean up tune session on it when winter hits to ensure the density changes in the air don't put the motor at risk. i've still not had a chance to do stop and go traffic or highway driveability testing.I'll likely get peak and WOT tuning finished by tonight and the rest in the morning."

I gotta say even if the dyno tops out at 425whp I am happy. It's all about the drive-ability which I should get to experience tomorrow.
