nice, def going to be a fun car to drive man, enjoy the hell out of it![]()
impressive numbers and driveability, you got it all going on brother!
radiator, injectors & thermostat.
A what......and what and you need a what....??
Radiator...?? Still having cooling issues....??
Injectors .....bigger or smaller and why...??
Thermostate......Didn't you had that yet...?? I got the nismo.
Great numbers buddyDid they say anything about the tranny slipping...??
Yes - at 15psi boost = 430whp we are having overheating issues, so we turned the boost down to 13psi = 400whp.
Injectors - bigger. We are at 85% duty cycle on the GTR injectors. If the outside air temperature gets cold, the injectors will max out.
Still have the OEM thermostat. Need to get the Nismo - that's what the shop recommended.
Radiator needs to be bigger because I have the intercooler, tranny cooler and oil cooler in front of it. There is too much heat soak and I can't bring coolant temperatures down. This is only a problem when beating on the car for longer periods of time. At this slightly lower boost level my temperatures stay under control. Looks like we just found the max capacity of the OEM radiator with all the other stuff in front of it.
Transmission did not slip at 430whp, but I believe prolonged use at this power level will cause fast wear to the transmission and it will begin to slip after the clutch plates begin to wear down.
I have read about 5ATs blowing up at 375whp. I have seen one FX here in Houston that has a supercharger putting down 500whp with a built GTM transmission, but it slips and I think it will burn out in less than a year.
Other thing.....people tell me the GT35R will have a big lag......at what revs is your set-up starting to boost. I mean that you really feel it....?? 2000-3000 rpm.....
My honest opinion is that you can't improve the transmission further. 450whp is the maximum, with a built 5AT transmission on the FX35. Only way to get more power to the drivetrain is to do a manual transmission swap. Even 450 is aggressive - I have read about 5ATs blowing up at 375whp. I have seen one FX here in Houston that has a supercharger putting down 500whp with a built GTM transmission, but it slips and I think it will burn out in less than a year.
This is why I think turbo FX over-build many parts they do not need to. The fuel system and built motor will never see more than 450whp unless you have a manual transmission. If you are building for more than that, it will be strong but you can not use the power.
I still want to keep my OEM radiator. I really think I can help cooling problems by adding fans to and moving the transmission cooler and the oil cooler away from the OEM radiator. If that does not work, THEN I will look for a new radiator. I just don't believe I really need it before trying to improve airflow to the radiator I have now.
For the injectors - I have 550cc right now at 85% duty cycle at 105 deg F (41C). I think I only need to go up to 650cc or 700cc to achieve the 450whp goals over the range of temperatures I will see in Texas.
Finally, I plan on getting new oil catch cans - two of them. The OCC I have now doesn't flow well enough and with FI it's more important to catch the blowby gasses.
car that you are speaking of is quangs and its actually been built since august to sept. of last year with no problems. Trans in fact is not slipping at all, he just came to the shop a week ago to do an oil change and check up. the car did 553whp and 456 wtq before we stopped. that was all done at 16-17 psi. please, if you can, get your facts straight before posting up about the vehicle. it is also not a gtm transmission, its a SFR built transmission. built 5at's have seen all the way up to 630whp. We have done two built infinitis with the sfr transmissions making over 550whp with no problems.
Gtr injectors are in fact 600cc injectors and not 550cc injectors. your tuner should know this due to the fact he deals with haltech. if you are having driveability issues, tell him to scale the injectors for 600's instead of the 550.
If you are having problems with cooling the car at that low of boost in this type of tempature, i would def. go back and get a complete check of the vehicle with the shop you had it built. maybe make a change on the coolant side to some npg+.
As far as the 35r being too laggy, it really isnt as stated by the OP. its actually sized too small for the vq. after about 16-18psi iats start to rise above 140 F. We have encountered this before and so have two other shops with the same turbo.
... I have never seen any of the high WHP built 5ATs. Glad to know it's possible....
