Enable AUX/Video input while driving

Thank you SO MUCH for the info Elmo! Quick question, seems like the 2nd method is much more powerful, are there any advantages to goin with the first method?

Which one is the best choose, 1st or 2nd mod method?

To me it seem the second method. Dvd movie disc, nav input and 360 camera. Can you also plug and play a external video source (portable dvd player, game console, etc) to video aux in the center console while in motion? Is that right for both question?

So excited go to mod it during the weekend.

Unfortunately the wiring was completely different again for the 2009 navi (just did the tear down). Don't suppose anyone has the 09 navi wiring page from the service manual. If not, where can I get the service manual from?

The DVD player would be plugged into the Aux.

I mean will the video composite jack function with this mod. No reason to plug a portable dvd player when there one built in to factory head unit. The reason about the aux plug in the center console is that, I want to run a tv out from my htc cell phone to view website ( google maps, hulu, etc), play video straight from my phone. Also can you just tape off the vss cable. What the reason for the on/off switch?

To clarify, yes thats what i ment. The AUX/Composite jack is what will work also. I plug my ipod in the A/V jack to watch my music videos.

While we wait for pics. The 09 NAV wires are still Pink (VSS) and Violet/purple (e-brake). They are side by side

Heres a mock-up of how they would look like

OK, so I sprinkled my great wisdom round a few of the other threads and now I'm free to post pics :)

Unfortunately I seem to have taken photos of the same connector twice, meaning I only have the photos of one of the two key connectors to the nav unit. And I have a feeling the one I shot is the WRONG one.

Looks like I'll be tearing my dash apart again this afternoon...

Saleen00_227,

For the second method you listed other functions. What are the other benefits? For people reading this tread and go ahead to mod the Navi/aux, would the second be the best choice? Would a Spst switch be a good switch for the vss wire.

fxthirtyfive,

Thats the plug right there. i highlighted the ones you have to work with

If anyone in the northern nj area knows what hell you are doing i will pay you to do is for me. I'm not wire savvy at all and i know if i try this myself I'll screw it up.

I believe this is for the 1st method right? How would it be if I were to do the 2nd method on the 2009 FX50s?

Thanks!

yes it is the first method. I have to research a little more if you want the second method. And i can't guarantee that it will do what it does to the 2010 models.

alright, im guessing it would be the same logic no? it would be to ground the purple from the same place... and the cut the vss (pink) at the other place u mentioned?

Yes but if you are gonna experiment don't cut it. Remove it from the harness without breaking anything then plug everything in and drive it down the street and see if it does what you want it to do.

Edit: I THINK the Unified Meter (the unit ontop of the AV unit) is wired the same. This is just my theory.

What kind of signal does the VSS give? Would I be able to spot the VSS wire by checking the voltage of the wire as I speed up?

Its an 8-pulse signal, thats all i know.
