G37 / FX50 Akebono Brake Retrofit

Thx Merchant, sorry for the confusion.

It will be a bit while till I can have the write-up done for the rear conversion. I am still waiting my parts from Infinitipartsusa.com to be shipped to me. And it will be another week or two before I can get the installation going. My buddy's garage is moving to a different location, so I will either go to rent some spare bay with high-raise from other shop or wait till the move is done, so I can take some good pictures with my digi-cam.

Sry about the delay.

Did anyone try the bbk front kit for a 2007 FX35 offered by Concept Z Performance? check it out their website. They said their Akebono brakes should fit the FX35. What do you guys think?

Front is the same for FX35 and the G37s, so it should fit. You will just need to drill down the banjo bolt a bit. The front is direct bolt on. However, I can't remember exactly, if you are using the stock 20" you will probably need space to clear the front caliper. I remembered read that on the org.

as for rears, still requires rear 2009+ knuckles and turbocad's ball joint adapter to make it possible (in retaining the oem parking brake system)

Hi there!

I'm getting Akebonos' kit in three days.
BUT I've ordered according to "initial" Turbocad's list without last line:
"4 INF 41218-JL00A / Clip".
Do I need theese clips?

Also i've got "Stop-tech SS Front Brake lines" for FX50, seems to me that they're the same, but 2 inches longer - I think it's not critical.

"Modified" list:
-----------------------
Turbo, if you could modify this list as you said some of the Pins/Clips might need updating:

Front Kit:
1 INF D1060-JL00B / Pad Kit-Disc Brake
1 INF D1080-JL00A / Disc Brake kit – can get aftermarket instead of these, I believe any G37S or FX50S rotor will fit
2 INF 40206-JL00A / Rotor Disc Brake Front
1 INF 41001-JL00A / Caliper Assy-Front Right
1 INF 41011-JL00A / Caliper Assy-Front Left
4 INF 41217-JL00A / Pin
4 INF 41218-JL00A / Clip
1 9504200 / Stop-tech SS Front Brake lines
------------------------------------------------

ok, if there making stoptech lines for the fx50 now then they will bolt right up to the caliper with no bolt modifications, but I don't know what else is different far as length & mounting, I'm assuming they should be usable for us but haven't tried, & yes, those 4 last clips are not necessary IF you get a stock set of pads... the STOCK factory pads do include these 4 clips, if your going for any aftermarket pads though, then I'd suggest ordering those 4 clips as I doubt they'll be included with an aftermarket set of pads...

Thanks, turbocad!

Yes, I'll use stock pads for a while.
BTW I red all the topic, but didn't get why the balljoint is needed to be replaced to set rear akebono up.
And other question: do you still have a pair of adapters and can you send them to Russia?

the balljoint adapters are needed because to use the rear akebono calipers on the fx we need to replace the whole rear knuckle with the knuckle from the fx50, but the ball joint & the hub bolts are different, my kit will allow them to just bolt up, there is no other good way of doing it & the adapters are def necessary for a safe & reliable install. pm me & I can get you a set..

far as the stoptech bolts, all the ones I've done the bolts are just slightly too long, if they are not trimmed/tip bored slightly, then the bolt will bottom in the caliper before fully seating on the 2 copper seal washers, you MAY get away with just tightening them up like that & it may compress enough to seal & be ok, but it is safer & more correct to not have this bolt bottom in the caliper at all, it should only bottom on the 2 compression washers... the akebono calipers are not really made for a banjo bolt at all, they are technically made to accept a flared line fitting, the banjo bolt will contact the inner flare part if it is not modified & is not 100% correct, I'd def recommend tip boring those bolts, but if you have it all tightened up & there fine then leave it I guess... I'd be concerned about this contact causing stress on either the threads or compressing the inner flare flange & deforming it or something, although it did look like it could just be tightened down to work, it's better if there is no internal interference at all...

Ok, thanks for the explanation, now it's all clear to me.

As for banjo and bolt - I know it since I've got a bicycle and hi-end hydro brakes on it :)
I wonder why it's banjo if it is for Akebono? I suppose the reason is in lowering production costs...

most flexible lines will use a banjo fitting because it is more secure when attached directly to a flex line, but the fx50 uses an odd brake line configuration because of how the suspension is designed, they actually use a hard line from the caliper up to a mounting point on the knuckle & then convert over to a flex line from there... because the actual connection to the caliper is a hard line then yeah, it's cheaper to just use a flared line at that point, but our suspension is different & a flex line straight to the caliper works for us so yeah, at that point we use a banjo... the good thing is that the akebono caliper does have a flat pad surface at this line connection which allows us to also use a banjo bolt, as long as it isn't long enough to bottom on the inner flare fitting...

Got my front set today.
Two questions (didn't find answers here):

1. There are no caliper bolts in kit description: will my stock caliper bolts suit?
2. Pins (2 for a caliper) are held in caliper by "clip"? I didn't order them and have nothing with brake pads. What it looks like?

1. yes stock bolts will work
2. you need the clips, they hold in the pins. they are cotter pins
looks similar to this

Thanks Merchant, I supposed that it's just a piece of wire.
I think I can find something similar in auto shops.
Are these clips supposed to be a part of Pad Kit-Disc Brake (D1060-JL00)?

BTW, It's not mentioned that front shields also must be modified in order to install akebonos.
I have 20" replica of FX50's 21" disks (the same shape) and front kits fit without spacers.
I'll place some fotos in few days.
SS Lines for FX50 (as our local seller said) need to be modified: they got 2 mounting plates, not a hub. But I think they'd fit. Banjo bolt is ok without trimming.
