New spacer on the market.

Tomorrows a Holiday.....Does UPS/FEDEX deliver? I know USPS is closed.

Tomorrow is a holiday for us as well..this new holiday called "family day". i have some work out equipment being delivered and according to the tracking it will arrive tomorrow so FED EX is certainly working on this side of the border.

I received the goodie. I just have to install it.

My question: How easy is it to snap the bolts?

I'm kind of scared to install this thing cuz I remember reading about over torquing and snapping bolts

very easy... Just make sure you use an inch/lbs torque wrench.

I've read on another forum g35 or my350 that you would get the same effect as tightening the nut with your fingers. They mentioned something about the same amount of torque can be applied. How true would this statement be?

It looks like you need around under 10 inch/lbs torque for many of the nuts. Instructions also say you need around 10-13 ft/lbs on some of the lugs.

My current torque wrench would deal with the ft/lbs. Can I possibly hand tighten the bolts with inch/lbs specs??

Man, I'm really scared about snapping the bolts, I need to apply quite a bit of force on my current torque wrench before the thing clicks to let me know I have applied enough pressure.

BTW: Spacer is very nicely built, but I thought it would be bigger. I guess pix used to advertise made the spacer look bigger.

I would get an inch pounds torque. One foot pound is 12 inch pounds if I am thinking right. I don't trust myself with hand tightening...I will tighten...and tighten...and think hhmmm, that should be good.. next thing you know, I am back tigtening it again just to make sure.

my directions said "if by hand... wear leather gloves... and that is equal to 90inch pounds" (100 being what is should be) i did it that way and have had no problems... 6 months now

I made my way out to Sears to day to buy an inch lb torque wrench and guess what...

I couldn't find one that would go below the torque specs printed on the instruction manual. It appears I need to to find an inch lb torque wrench with a range of 0 - 25 inch lbs.

I don't have the instruction manual infront of me, but that's what I recall seeing.

Any suggestions on where to purchase one. I've tried autozone and sears. They don't carry the wrenches with specs I need.

I installed this spacer and drove around a little bit.

I did not reset my ECU. I noticed that the car like to stay in high rev range. Another thing I noticed was that the car does not like 5th gear. It likes to stay on 4th.

How do I know if i have a vacuum leak? Everything seems fine other than the car revving a bit high.

Do you think the car is revving high cuz it's trying to learn the new found power? I got too tired and didn't bother disconnecting the battery. Do you suppose my high revving problem will be solved with an ECU reset?

On the positive note, I do feel like it added some noticeable power, but then again, it might be because the thing stay in high rev range and whenever i hit the accelerator I feel instant power.

in for good info. I'd like to do this but need to research what the previous owner did on our FX. Don't want to take things apart to realize he snapped a bolt and did a half-ass repair (based on what he did on the NAV mod, I'm not putting it past him )

The first part about the RPM staying high, it will be normal for a bit. you will see the RPM bouncing around because the ECU is adjusting for a while. i would recommend doing a ECU pedal reset. take a look at this thread for reference on how to do the ECU Pedal Reset Easy Ecu Resetting - G35Driver

If you do have a vacuum leak you would probably only hear it on idle. this is something Tony from motordyne told me. when you are driving the air is being sucked into the plenum, so even if there was a loose bolt, no air would be escaping because it is getting sucked through the plenum. nothing to worry about. i have been driving for a few months with a broken outer bolt and i havent had any issues; just haven't found the time to get a new bolt take and fix it.

If you take off the engine cover you will probably see right away if the previous owner broke a bolt. the threading for the plenum bolts are all at the bottom 1/3 to 1/2 of the bolt (to my recollection, i may be wrong), so when the bolt breaks you can basically take the top part off (which is what happened in my case). you can just look at all the outer and inner plenum bolts and it you see theres a bolt missing (or you can just pull the top off lol ) then you will know he broke a bolt.

I called them this morning for an update and I guess the order never went through. Something about paying from Canada etc. But they have not refunded my accout yet and it's been sitting for two weeks doing nothing. They said I have to go to the bank and do a wire transfer now. If I wasnt looking forward to this mod so much I may be more pissed, but I just want that thing in my engine!!!!

Keemo,

That totally blows... I was so anxious to get this and I think I know how you feel.

I played with the car a bit more after ECU reset. I did the reset by disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery. I can feel a noticeable pick up in the higher rpm (after 4k) and my car is louder in WOT. In fact, my wife bitched at me a bit for making the car even louder than it is . The intake sound is definitely louder than before. I think the ecu is still learning, because it still like to stay in higher than usual rpm and it still likes the 4th gear in local streets.

I'm still sort of paranoid about vacuum leaks. What are the symptoms? I don't hear any unusual sounds when the engine is idle. My high idle problem is gone after the ecu reset. It idles where it was prior to the upgrade. I do not feel any noticeable power loss in the lower rpm ranges.

ah man!!! now I want it even more...

THANKS MONGO...:wink::laugh:

I did a pedal reset on the weekend, thanks to Brown's link, and it brought new life back into her. I heard some guys w/ G's are doing this every other week.

What's the pedal reset?

This resets the ECU's driving 'map' to before it learns that we all actually drive like grannies. The ECU takes the path (3 I think) of the least aggressive driver and sticks with that 'map' unless it is reseted. It works really well to do this! Or you can have a re-flash/technosquare thingy to keep it 'mapped' aggressively permanently.
