turbocad's custom fx

yeah, I wasn't much of a fan of that blue one... it just looks like add on pieces, guess cause it's just add on pieces... everyone said it needed spacers big time, but his problem was, he didn't even cut the OE sheet metal, so if he really spaced them out to where they should be, he would have had to jack up the fx real high just to drive it & not rub & bottom out on the flare, picture your wheels sticking out 2 inches from the original body, & how jacked up it would have to be to be able to drive it.... that, combined with the fronts being bone stock just made it not work at all to me. the way he did it was impossible to tuck a wheel in there.

in the pictures of my fx, "the fender pieces just look like add on fender flares. Kinda sharp transitions, & doesn't flow all that great with the rest of the lines right now", but when there trimmed & grafted in & molded & the body is stretched they won't look that way, it will look smooth & like it came that way, not like add on pieces at all. at least that would be the goal. like I said, it'll take a bit of imagination to picture the final look with just my pictures so far.


I'm not really going for the flared out fender flare look, mine will flare out less than Viet's fx at the wheel well itself. as much as I love his fx, I think we can all agree that his is the most beautiful body modded fx out there. to me it's the only body modded fx that even looks good, but mine will not be a copy of his. I'm not really looking for as aggressive a look & mine will be built for different reasons than his, I have no goals of competing with my fx & am not concerned about points or making as much impact as his. his looks like a toy, an all out jdm type aggressive looking show car. sick, no question about it, mine I'll be going more for a subtle tuner kinda look, mine will be different in that I'll widen the whole rear of the fx starting somewhere in the rear door all the way back to the taillight, that will make it look smooth & not flared really, although in the end it may wind up being about as wide at the wheel wells it won't look flared. the whole back will be fatter than the front, kinda vaguely like this Aston martin... picture similar to this kind of profile but on an fx:

I've seen a lot of pictures of a few different modded fx body's. the Russian guys did some removing of the plastic wheel well moldings too, but did it by just grafting the molding into the fenders... the end result is a huge chopped off looking lip which I just didn't want. you can look at them & see that it's just all grafted together, looks easy to do but don't look good to me. we've all seen the white crazy looking thing from emirates or where ever it was from, forget the front, but just looking at the sides, that one too just uses added on lumps over the wheel wells, kinda that Toyota 4 runner or explorer type look flares, not what I'm going for at all.


I guess it's kinda hard for you to picture what I have in my head, but I'm picturing smooth & wide, but not really so much flared, more bubbled out & wide in the rear. smooth, kinda like a g37 really. I'm thinking the rear door opening transition will be similar to the new Lexus is, or most other 4 door sedans really in that the wheel well won't be cut down the middle & the front half of the wheel well won't open with the door, instead, the door will have a seem all the way around it & the wheel opening will stay on the body even when the door is opened. I have it all pictured in my head, just hard to really illustrate it. the way I see it in my head I think it would work, just hard to really picture it as a whole...

Bubbled out & wide is exactly the way it should be. If you can pull this off, I'd love to see it. Guess I'm just not envisioning it yet with the fender flares as is. If anyone can make it work, that would be you hack-master :wink:
 
oh & chedman, thanks for that weathertech link.

doc, as far as the kyb's changing ride height, the strut housing itself is identical to the oe's so that by itself will have no effect one way or the other on overall ride height, but, these are gas charged struts & in being so, they do extend with pressure, so after these are installed there is a slight lifting effect from them, not a whole lot, it's kinda like someone trying to lift the fx with about 150lb's of force on the front... it does budge up ever so slightly... I probably wouldn't have noticed much had I done all 4 at the same time, but in that I only did the fronts right now I can tell that it is slightly higher, I had to adjust my drivers side rear view mirror slightly... I would guess at maybe a 1/4" or so if that, probably not even that much...

Can the spring be cut to offset the hight differance? The front is alreay slightly higher than the rear, even with the eibachs.
 
yeah, when I got my fx stock, the front was slightly higher than the rear, then I did h&r's & it evened it out to about level across.

when I cut 1/2 coil in the front & trimed the rear upper blocks, the fx winded up with a slight rake to it, front slightly lower than the rear. now I did just the front kyb's & it kinda leveled it out again, my thoughts are hopefully the rears will have the same effect in slight lift & return it to a slight rake.

I never had eibachs but I hear there stiffer than the h&r's. when you cut a spring you are increasing the spring rate even more, cut eibachs may be extremely stiff? I think firedawg just bought a used set of cut eibachs from babaluwee, you can ask them how stiff a cut eibach will be... humberto may have cut eibachs too I think... personally I love the ride now with the cut h&r's & the new struts, it's kinda low but rides decent again.

I want to try to keep the ride quality it has now but lower it another 1"-1.5", if I can get it that low & still ride like it does now I'd be happy with that I think

Is there any advantage to getting KYB over OEM struts?
 
If we have enough interest in the kyb's we could send them an email for a group price.

sorry to bump this up, but I've been working on a way to build similar headlights to my dual bi-zenons without the extreme amount of labor the true motorized dual bi-zenon setup would take. I've cut apart several sets of headlights & been playing, I came up with a way to get similar looking results with a lot less labor. it's not a true bi-zenon but the look is still there though, actually in a way they look better because I was able to push the inner projector out more towards the outer lens since it doesn't need to pivot with the other projector, mine I have to have that inner projector pushed in more & it's not quite as symetrical as this setup, this one lines up really nice... here's a few shots...

this inner projector is illuminated with the dtrl, still have to play with lighting, shielding & a few inner details to try & get the look I want to try & get...



I also lost a lot of pictures here of the led's that I did inside my headlights, had them linked from g35driver but thry don't show here any more... I'll put them back here soon
