What does your Audio system look like? post your Audio set-ups here...!!

Well then I guess you and Jeff can have a mini meet . But hopefully we can meet up when you get to come down to socal in the future.
For sure I'll be down your way to a meet or 2 or 3, 4. I just need to get SC'd so I can keep up with Jeff. It looks like a SC'r will be my next project. I like Jeffs ride. it seems like everybody here has there own style which makes our FX's unique. So you have got to love the Scene for giving us a place for self expression and a common enjoyment.

It do what it do baby... is what I say

Great Job Deecarp

I like the way you have everything set up, it looks real nice.

I'm new to the site, and to owning an FX. I want to try to do some mods, especially in the audio department. I just had a question for you, I have an '04 FX45 with Nav, it seems that most aftermarket cd players are put in the slot where the clock is, exactly where you have it. Now, is that comlepetely wired separately from the main Head Unit or is it tied together? Do you have Nav in your car? I think the stock Nav is ok, I'm cool with that but definitely would like to have better sound. Please let me know. Thanks. Keep up the good work.

First off Welcome to the scene! Thanks for the compliment. Originally I had both the factory and the aftermarket unit tied to one another using the factory unit as a CD changer in a since. the problem with that is if you have an aftermarket unit tied into the factory you will loose some of the feature the unit will offer. wiring separately gives you full access to all features of your new unit and no cross communition, or ground loops. I really wanted to do a glove bax install but there was not enough room in the glove or behind it to modify it. I don't have Nav, will I upgrade, yes, but as of now I just wanted a much better quality sound, and video play, and back up camera which I will update shortly.

There are afew here that have very nice system set up that can give you ideas in the direction you would or might want to go. FXLR8 has Carputer, Rookie has a nice setup as well just to name a couple. if you have any other question let me know if I can't answer them I'm sure we can find it here. Again, welcome to the scene, lots of knowledge here on the site.

Thanks for the feedback and the welcome Deecarp.

So if I were to install an aftermarket radio and keep it completely separate from the main head unit, I'd have full, separate functionality on both?

I know that may sound like a rhetorical question but, I just want to go in the right direction from the beginning.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

In theory you could actually do both, meaning you could have both factory and aftermarket units playing through your speaker using a selector switch between the units. that would require additional wire hook-ups. If you just want to improve your sound the best bet would be to just up-grade your speakers, sub and after market amp(s). I say this because you already have Nav, intergration of aftermarket products won't be to difficult. You would be able to tie in addition monitors if you choose to do so and maintain a factory look with some great SQ. I went aftermarket head unit b/c I didn't have a tech pkg. I hope this response answers you question.

Hi Mel and welcome to the scene. Hope you find your way around ok. Just to add to what Dee has already said you can have both the oem system and a after-market system working at the same time and/or integrated into one or the other. The way I have mine set-up is I have the oem system working in conjunction with my after-market alpine unit. I have the tech package as well as the oem nav but added a separate nav from alpine. I have use of both if needed but as of right now the only thing I use from oem system is the CD changer thru the aux port of the alpine. I also use the oem screen for video and have the ability to interchange the output of both screens which is really nice. I also have full control of the alpine unit through the steering wheel audio controls. Hope this helps.

Hey Doc, I like that set-up. Man, now I have all kind of ideas wandering through my head. Can I please have one of those screens. I knew I saw this before but couldn't remember where or who until now. I like that, great job Doc.

Thanks Dee. I can't take all the credit for this idea as there were others who did similar setups. But rookie was the one who did this same alpine system before me so I basically benefited from his lead and put my little variants to it.

Hey Doc, Thanks for the feedback.

I think that's the way I'm gonna go with mine. I like the versatility and quality of an aftermarket radio better, but I just wanted to make sure that the OEM navi would still be able to function if I put one in. I'm fine with the factory navi. I'm more concerned about the sound quality, and I know it will be better with aftermarket components.
Again, thanks for the welcome and the info.

P.S. One more thing, if its not too much bother, I would like to see how you have amps and subs set up. Thanks.

As of right now I am still on the stock amp and speakers. I have not got around to upgrading these. Still talking to my audio guy about it and working on configurations.

No bother helping out a fellow fx'r so don't hesitate to ask if needed.

Just adding additional pics, had some afterthought on fans I added for heat and IPOD ashtray install will end up redoing both once I get to Cali and get moved in to a new house.

After thought added fans to help cool amps ... one pulls air in the other pulls air out.

I thought I replied to this thread?

My set up is pretty simple, all the guys tell me it's the most docile part of my ride right now. Hope to spice it up a bit in the next few weeks.

Hey Rookie, are those JL W3v2 or W6v2? I have 2 13" W6v2 that I plan to put in the new 45 I'm awaiting delivery and I really like your setup... very clean and factory look. I am curious what the box looks like in the spare tire well. Can you take a pic of that and your wiring so I have a decent template? TIA man, sweet ride...

They were 12w6v2s like Krayzie said. The box was pretty simple, rectangular MDF, it raised the floor up a little but nothing crazy. Wiring was pretty standard since I stopped using the oem system.

Here's the current rear set up.

Nice setup! I haven't ever heard a system with the subs firing like that, how does it compare to rear firing or your previous system of upward-firing?

I'm taking delivery of the 45 tomorrow... too excited for words, got a sh!7 eating grin on my face...

I think rear firing for the bass to reflect is probably ideal, it just eats up so much space. Up was ok, shook the rear spoiler a bit much. These side firing are a good middle ground for me, the ID Maxs are pretty cool. Not sure if it's the amps, subs, or enclosures or what but the bass is much more controlled.
