For those with bubbling dash. Coverlay dash cover

I am new to this site and as a "new" owner of a 2004 FX35, I am looking to fix the usual issues found with this ride.

Leather Seats were ripped: I bought used leather seats and replaced the "skins" two weeks ago. I now have the structures or the replacement seat and do not know what to do with them.

Bubbly Dash: Had the coverlay 10-305LL-BLK in my ebay cart. Logged this weekend to purchased for $302+Shipping, they pulled the item. CarID now wants $386+Shipping=$441. Ouch! that is what I get for waiting. They would not price match old price.

Called Accuform, they only have the 10-609LL for the 2006-2008 available. I was told the area radio does not match. I also wrote an note to possibly help with them to produce one.

Still looking for an alternatives.
 
I bought the Coverlay black dashboard to cover my melted dashboard; it actually doesn't look bad except for the side near the windshield (the glue didn't stick), but even that doesn't look too bad. However, I'm deciding to remove and actually pay for the replacement. The main reason is that the passenger airbag seems to be covered a little bit. If there was something to happen (especially since I haven't done recall NHTSA 16V-349 for airbag), I could this be potentially hazardous.

I've requested two requests, one came in at $3,000--I don't think the car is worth that much. I live in Houston.

Has anyone else received estimates to replace the entire dashboard? If so, can you please post area and price? Thanks in advance!

I also stay in Houston and I went to all the Infiniti dealerships and they all wanted almost $3k to replace. I love this car don't get me wrong but $3,000 to replace a dash is outrageous.

The cheapest, I've gotten so far is from Master Auto Body & Upholstery. This is what, I received from him months ago:

"We have encounter this problem before and the only solution is to replace the dashboard. The dash is sold in two colors the black one is $1,530.42 and the beige is $1809.71 the labor will be $700. Let me know if you have any questions."

I don't know what your price point is, but maybe we can negotiate a lower price if they do two? I've emailed another upholstery company in Houston and waiting for their response.

Hi i have some pictures of the Accuform model for the 2006-2008 version FX.
It looks a bit shiny but that is due mostly to the "lightning" of the camera.
It is a lot cheaper 200 USD,compared to the Coverlay.
I am not familiar with the quality differences, however i have a sample of the Coverlay and that is thicker than the Accuform and then is the question do Coverlay use the thickness of the sample in real on their dashboard cover ?
The color of the Coverlay is a bit more fuller black and the structure is more "there" to see
And are those differences worth the price differences??
But it is worth it to better your dash with bubbles all over and a cheaper alternative to replacing with a original or to reupholstering the dash.
Mark this as well: the Accuform has no covering at the airbag place the Coverlay does!

Thanks for the review and pictures. So the Accuform leaves that giant hole open where the airbag is?
I look forward to seeing more pictures with it installed.

Hi all, I recently picked up an 03 FX with 137k miles at a repo auction for only $4,400. It went cheap, mainly because of a few cosmetic issues, the trademark shredded vinyl on the lower seat panels, the dash has structure cracks coming off the corners of most of the cut outs, but no bubbles, the floor mats/carpet are pretty grimy, and only one pretty hammered looking smart key. I took advantage of an open airbag recall to take her into the dealer for a free in depth inspection. The only mechanical issue they could come up with was the front U joints may be a little loose and I should have them checked again in another 20,000 miles. That's not bad for a 14 year old vehicle, and a strong testament to the long term durability of the brand. So about the rehab, the seats were the most glaring defect. I started by looking for wrecking yard replacements, but in the brick color pickins was mighty slim. The only acceptable replacements were located out of state and being that the yards would only sell me the entire seat for $350-$500 per seat, the extra $200-$400 in shipping made that option less than desireable. I then looked into the reupholstering option. Local shops wanted upwards of $600 to fix all the seat defects so I made a few more calls. A buddy of mine who has done a lot of car restoration had the number of a guy who does seat repair for a lot of used car dealers. I took it to him and let him work his magic. He replaced the vinyl lower panels of both front seats with actual leather that matched perfectly and fixed several other flaws in the leather uppers. He made the seats look basically like brand new for only $260. I went the eBay route with the smart key and the dash. I purchased a used smart key for $60 and found a nearby locksmith who says he can reprogram it for $40, but I'm still waiting for the key to arrive to know for sure if that's true. I ordered the Accuform dash on eBay for just under $200. It was a bit of a wrestling match to get it over the instrument panel, but after a little head scratching I was able to get it in place by starting on the driver's side with the steering wheel/instrument panel all the way forward and down. I had to bend the dash cap pretty severely and force it to get it over and around the instrument panel/steering column but fortunately it bent ok without breaking, and fell right into place after clearing that obstacle. It looks ok, but definitely not as nice as the original dash. If I had the bubble trouble that I’ve seen with other dashes I’d say this is a good fix, but where mine just has a few small cracks I’m wondering if there’s a better fix. I think I’ll hold off on adhering this cap in place until I rule that out. Any recommendations for fixing minor dash cracks?

Guys , I found an Infiniti fx 35 2004 accident parts for sale include nice dashboard no bubble, do you think it will fit my 2008 fx35 ??
 
you're about two years past the extended warranty period for the dash. i had mine replaced but it still has bubbles after a few years. talk to your dealership and see if they can still do it in warranty or with a discount. good luck..
 
I just put the custom black carpet one on my ‘03, a few years ago. It only sold for $4500 with outstanding service history.

Black was low key. Everyone in Texas knows what they are seeing, it’s just a patch on a ten year or so old dash.

No airbag worries with the carpet style cover. Just use the supplied sticky tape.

$3000 is a sizable down payment on your next Fun Car. If I spent that much on my dash with nearly a quarter million miles on my FX, I wouldn’t want people to know.:confused:
