Widebody FX

Greetings my FX brethren. Long time! S6 is gone, onto a RS7. TL;DR there's a widebody at the end. :)

Could never stomach the new car depreciation of the RS7 so facelift cars starting becoming more available but the dam PODS hold was holding up inventory. Many many comfort seating cars available but limited number of sport seats. A few possible cars around the country popped up but the really good ones sold quickly. UW Audi posted a 2016 RS7 Performance with 12.2k miles, which was intriguing for under 90k ask, sales guy told me over email if I wanted to buy it sight unseen since it was going to be in prep for a few days before sale. I laughed, I wanted the opposite of the black car which would be several thousands to wrap. Buying locally would save me flying out to see a car and shipping.

Pretty much had me at hello but resisted committing. Achtuning did a PPI, no VIN in the APR database (check), turbo lines all dry (check), no signs of body disassembly (check), and suspension bolts never touched (check)
RS7_PPI_01.jpg

RS7_PPI_02.jpg

Car was not a lease, from what UW Audi tells me the previous owner was a construction company owner and based on the miles it was a pleasure car. 30 months from new it basically saw 400 miles a month and the maintenance records were on perfect for my liking. I don't drive much like this previous owner, my S6 was traded in with under 11k miles.

2016 Mythos Black RS7 Performance: Alcantara, B&O and Drivers Assistance. From reading and gathering, the US Performance model standard differences are below.

Overboost 605HP/553TQ vs 560HP/512TQ
190mph top speed vs. 174mph
DRC spring suspension
420/370 Ceramic Brakes
Red boost gauge
Drive Select button on the steering wheel
Soft Close Doors
21" 5 Double Arm wheels

I'm a pay it forward person when possible with knowledge and info, the general culture on this forum is pretty good with some very helpful enthusiasts sharing their passion. Noticed we lost some old timers and some performance heads, we all start into a platform only knowing so much so while influxes of new owners can bring up repetitive questions it's all a net positive to help each other out.

Less blah blah, more mods. OK!

Love the forums for used wheels, one of the highest priced mods you can do that depreciates like no other. Instantaneous 40-50% loss in value unless you find the right buyer at the right time [:D]
HRE_P101_01.jpg

Found a set of the newer HRE caps, if anyone has had HREs before the older flat caps spin. HRE logo should be straight with the valve at 6 o'clock, I'm OCD enough to always want it that way and have the wheel lock at 12 o'clock
HRE_P101_02.jpg

Black cars in the dark hide the massive wheel gap. 21x9.5" HRE P101, +22 and +27 offsets, Brushed tint. Wanted to get some lip protection and better than 6 sized side wall so running 285/30-21 Michelin PSS. Them dam side markers in the bumpers are ugly, most regions outside of North America don't even have the openings front and rear for those lights.

Cete Valve controller to get a bit more control out of the valves.

Had to take it in for some Warranty work. MMI button was 60-70% of the time working to select, this was just a bad button. SIM card slot seemed to never work for the previous owner. Data history showed a few KB so ended up with a new MIB, needed to try to update maps over the air but it was too far out of date for over the air. More photos and info on USB update over here. Tag Side Markers finally came in. So much wheel gap!

Parts started piling up at home. Needed to dig out so KW HAS, Eurocode Alu Kreuz and sways, 034 inserts all installed at Achtuning. Quick alignment, nothing terribly out of whack. More photos and info on DRC over here. RS6/RS7 Dynamic Ride Control info and options

RS7 mats from across the pond. Have only seen hints of Audi Sport Exclusive RS7 mats but never really seen them. Pricing from a friend at Audi was going to be $800. No thanks.
RS7_Mats.jpg

Added Euro Dynamic tails from Alex@Eurorpice.

Was lucky and got a Basser sub enclosure, JL amp and sub plus the OEM panel already cut. Had to have a friend meet up in DC to pick up and parts and ship to me, the panel is incredibly odd shaped. Prior to this had meddled with adding a different sub which raised the bass a little but not enough boom. The B&O is crisp and clear but not bass heavy.

PODS warranty work had a long out schedule at Audi Bellevue which is my preferred dealer. Helpful peeps here said Tacoma was scheduling much faster, Kelly at Achtuning said wait to do engine mods if PODS work was to be done, which saved me from getting TD1 flagged. Had the oiling system updated to new parts while the downpipes were getting put in. Clean screen, replaced the easy to access stuff while they were in there so I have peace of mind for tuning.

Audi Sport Akrapovic!
Audi_Sport_Akra_03.jpg

Why the Audi Sport version? Initially I was going to get the regular version, but seeing some fake tips start to show up I wanted the Audi Sport tips which are $1200 so just got the Audi Sport version thinking the price difference between the 2 versions was all tips. This is incorrect, I noticed a few months back Akrapovic was showing new uncatted downpipes and 2x versions of the stainless link pipes from the downpipes to the main exhaust.
Audi Sport link pipes Akrapovič
Evolution link pipes Akrapovič
Audi_Sport_Akra_08_1.jpg

Laying out the system I noticed this is different from other Akrapovics I have seen and even from my own pictures of the S car Akrapovic.
Audi_Sport_Akra_04.jpg

Stay with me. Notice the orientation of the forward resonators. Audi Sport compared to Akrapovic Evolution on my S6
Audi_Sport_Akra_05.jpg

Akrapovic_02.jpg

Audi Sport likely spec'd some changes on the Akrapovic for fitment, straight into the resonators would be less likely there is a sealing issue at the link pipe connection. Another difference, notice the location of the clamps after the suitcase. Offset stubbs from the suitcase, again I think this is a fitment and install change to keep clamps at different positions and not interfere with each other.

These are not just S car to RS car differences.

R8 Oil and Coolant caps, bonafyd messaged me after seeing me post it was installed saying the other caps out there do not click when installing it and he is correct so pulled it off. Porsche coolant cap also does not click closed, from research the A8 coolant cap is black which might be the next one to try.

Carbon Fieber full carbon rear spoiler. Fitment is pretty good, the guide pin holes need to be made on the CF, and the OEM bolts were a hair long so stainless split ring lock washers and thread lock used to secure it. Would hate to have the thing fly off at speed and hurt someone.

Forge_Heat_Exchanger_07.jpg

The height isn't the issue with airflow, it's that it is so far forward in the bumper/grille area it blocks the intake snorkel inlet.

Point of no return is familiar territory for me. Point of no return is when you would need to do a whole lot of work to revert to stock. I really should've done this with the white S6 but the trans needing to be replaced derailed that plan. I don't mod by committee, like or no like I do this stuff for me and a few friends knew this was happening. Took too long at the body shop that I won't mention, it is a clinched kit which I won't mention too much either since the US office gave me a jacked up offset that was nowhere near right and wasted a set of wheels.

BIG thanks for my TWCompetition guys for moral and mental support. I hated having a long distance relationship. Blake at North West Auto Salon and Right Away Tire, Ben "Mops" @Nemesis, Alex@Europrice, Kelly and the guys at Achtuning.

Output and some construction photos to get to this point.

This was a set of 275/35-21 winter tires I had lying around. Wanted to get the metal edge of the wheel to the body line for measurement. No intention of driving on stretched tires. Think this was a 40mm spacer in the back on top of a 21x11.5 +5 offset is essentially 21x11.5 -35.

Winter tire was technically too tall so put my stock 275/30-21 tires on. Even higher level of RETARDED stretch!

3rd set of BC Forged wheels for the RS7. Wanted monoblocks but no one thinks running this negative of an offset is safe for a super concave face. Like clockwork, BC Forged delivers from Taiwan in 4 weeks even during this world wide game of cooties.

21x10.5 -25 front, 21x12.5 -25 rear. Offset can go lower, intentionally running a little conservative for the expected Widebody growing pains. Been here before, don't full send that shit out of the gate.
