What would you do ... ???

I am considering trading my 2009 FX35 (AWD, Deluxe pack) for a 2008 FX45 (black on black) with low mileage (under 10k).

How many of you would 'go backwards', and trade down to a first gen FX? Of course, I am giving up better technology, but the first gen (esp a 45) has that very special curb appeal.

Opins?

I say stick with the FX35 and just do some mods to give it more power

I couldn't do it.. I would miss the interior too much.. Power is about the same, not sure about the weight, so performance would be similar..

This thread will get some mileage....I love my 45, still dropping cash on mods with ZERO regret with regards to opportunities for purchasing a second gen. I could do it in a heartbeat but I'm still really in love with the look/design of the body stying (and the V/8 just purrs) IF you have modding dollars you CAN make it beefy without too much headache (I'll know more in a few months) anyway, interesting idea. Have you spent quality time in both models?

+1 The 1G interiors are really nice looking too, but if you have been driving a 2G for some time, you will miss the interior. I've been toying with the idea the last few days of moving up to a 06+ FX45 myself.

Well. Owning 3 fx's, (just sold one). One being an fx50S an 06 45, and a 05 35 (sold) they are all awesome in different ways. The 2 gen is very refined as the 45 is a lot more sporty. Especially with some mods. Can't really go wrong.

I thought you already had an 08':wink (2):.

No offense to 1st gen guys but I wouldn't do it. I don't understand why did you buy the 2nd gen in the first place if you didn't like the styling??? Makes no sense to me at all. That's like me buying a Ford Flex when I absolutely dispise the way that thing looks. I remember you complaining about the looks of the 2nd gen, then why did you buy it in the first place?? I'd never shell out $50K+ on a vehicle and not care for the way it looks.

Plus you'll be taking a HUGE step back in interior quality/styling, better ride quality/quieter ride, better chassis (since the 2nd gen rides on an improved revised FM platform than the 1st gen), better drivetrain, better technology, better suspension.

I've been in and driven the 1st gen many times and it's a night and day difference between the two. Nothing about them is the same. Everything down to the the nut and bolts are different.

But hey if that's what you want to go then go for it...... I love the 1st gen don't get me wrong. The sounds they make give me orgasms, but I couldn't see myself taking a big step back like that.

I'm glad I don't have your problem and I don't know how you sleep at night.
You should consider your car buying habits. If you go thru cars quickly and often make changes, I say go for it and enjoy. If you're a little more conservative and expect to keep your ride for a long period of time, I say don't go backwards since there's is a good chance you'll miss the 2nd Gen later on.

Too bad u can't have the best of both worlds. As for ur dilemma, I suggest u keep the 2nd gen FX u have. The interior on my FX is nothing to write home about but the look of it gives me plenty of satisfaction. Now if I had an experience with a 2nd gen like urs, I would have mixed reviews. Don't get me wrong I like the 2nd gen exterior also but not as much as mine. The interior is a different story. Don't sacrifice comfort.

Im thinking of trading my 35 for a 06+ 45 I've been keeping and eye on. After this thread I might just pull the trigger

OP, you have a history of doing silly things. I feel like this would be right up your alley.

Without the $ difference I'd say you were crazy. All things considered, I say do it. If you hate it you can always go back, no biggie. I'd think an 08 with low miles is much more rare than an 09 anyway. Who knows, maybe you'll be way happier with a way better looking ride... :bomb:

+1 I love my 45 and the exterior of the 1st gen way more IMO. The interior of the 2nd gen is hands down way more plush and tech loaded. Sure the gen 2 rides like butter, but personally I love the agressive sporty ride of my 1st gen. I guess it all depends on what you want. After having multiple sports cars It was the perfect choice for me. No regrets here

Question is have you ever owned a 1st gen fx? , if not its going to be hard to go down to 1st gen fx.. But personally i will get the 45, no offense to the 2nd gen guys, every guy i know does not like the new design, but they love the interior.. You have to consider if you want a stiff/harsh ride(1st gen) or less stiff ride-more
comfort (2nd gen)..
Like i said ill go with a 08 fx35, plus the resale value is high..

1g or 2g

What choice did you make? Did you stay with 1g, i would like to know1?
