What should my next mod be? performance

How much more do they charge for AWD? It's usually a little more since they have to spend a little time setting up the dyno, but it's not a lot. And the tuning portion is the exact same for RWD/AWD. The license is a fixed cost, but it that's still high for tuning. Around here it's roughly $150 an hour to tune. And for a basic N/A car, it doesn't take much time. They can only change so many parameters and a lot of it is already fixed, they're not building a map from the ground up. HFC picks up a decent amount with a tune, catback exhaust is less gains.

It shouldn't cost much more if anything. Also tuning around AWD is easy, I've done it twice now and it works flawlessly, remove the AWD fuse for the tune and replace it after. Loss or lack of control in the tune due to the AWD disconnect is less than 1%. Agreed with Shadow on the maps, PRO tuners will start with a modified 350Z map and work up from there.

I'm curious at why they would charge a significant premium if they have an AWD dyno. A friend owns a tuning shop with an AWD dynojet. He charges I think like an extra 30 minutes labor because they have to adjust the rollers for the wheelbase and spend a little more time strapping it down. But the tuning itself is the same money.

I don't think the price is that high because of the AWD of the car. I think they simply charge too much for a dyno tune cause they feel they can.

As stated before $850 is a crazy price for a tune. Realistically anything over $700 you are being robbed.

a good deal is 500-600, average price is around the high end of that scale.

Wow Viperi, they told me $800 and you $850. Don; think i will use them for a tune. i agree, considering we don't have much mods, tuning shouldn't take very long. Of well, i will look around but i am in no rush as i would like a Invidia exhaust, just not sure when i will do that

Ok guys, I did some digging into APH's Tuning and spoke to Brian Kwong Hang Wong ( He used his full name when responding) via e-mail.

" Hasan,
License fee is $300, $200 per hour using our 4WD dynapack 4000, Wideband option and setup fee.
Tuning will cost $100 per hour.

Thanks! "

So basically after you buy the license, he is charging you $200 per hour just to use the dyno, plus an additional $100 per hour to tune it. There is no mention of road tune in his e-mail. One of the things a good tuner does after a dyno tune is a road tune. The dyno can only stimulate the road so much, so after tuning on the dyno, the tuner takes the car on the road and does fine point adjustments to get it just right!

Wow

$300 bucks an hour for dyno and a tech? Thats ridiculous.

Either way that should only tally up to about 600 bucks, you don't really need more than 1 hour on a dyno if the tuner knows what he is doing, especially when considering they can start from any premade 350z map...

i have a feeling they rent the dynos off onepoint.

i have a feeling they rent the dynos off onepoint. i heard good things bout sasha. i emailed him a quote. http://www.onpointdyno.com/

Exotich, that's exactly who gave me my qoute. I wil message him back to see how long he thinks a tune will take with what i have. I will use the information in this thread to see if he will give a better price. maybe if i sound like i know what i'm taling about he might treat me different

No never go to a person who treats a customer different based on how much knowledge a customer might have regarding a product. At this point I wouldn't even let this guy touch my car. I e-mailed him to get his reasoning for why he was charging so much, to understand his logic and help you out. Maybe in GTA they don't have many Nissan Uprev tuners, but in the states he would get laughed at and loose his business.

so i emailed onpoint dyno and this is what i got

Thanks for the email!

Our all-wheel-drive pods are on their way, and should arrive by the end of February. To answer your questions:

- Yes absolutely you will have map switching through the cruise control functions – as long as that is an option with UpRev for your ECU type.

Right now we tune RWD only, and typically a VQ35 will pick up 8-12whp across the band, improved throttle response and verification that the tune is safe, which is important with an aftermarket intake.

I’m not sure how the Dynapack will favor an AWD automatic with intelligent torque split like your car had, so we will have to try it and see. If the dyno and the vehicle are fighting each other, we can complete the tuning on the street.

Pricing for a street tune including the UpRev licence: $600 including HST
Pricing for an AWD dyno tune including the UpRev licence: $800 including HST.

If you book your tune for before April 15[SUP]th[/SUP], 2014, I will take $50 off of the price of the tune.

Thanks!

if I get a tune I will use Sasha, But I know him personally so I would rather deal with him.

Go for a "dyno day", possible press for the shop if they can run a few back to back, plus uou get the benefit of the tuner perfecting the tune with like rides.

I say lets get a group buy. Found another place in Toronto called Whitehead Performance. They seem to specialize in Nissan engines. I am going to call them and see what they say

Hey man. Who did end up going with? I live in Oakville and looking for a stage one ecu tune and spacers. Would love to hear what your final mods accomplished. Thanks in advance for the info.

Didn't end up with the upgrades. Got in an accident and bought the 2014 qx70
