What octane do you put in your FX?

The manual says use at least premium gas (91, 93 depending on what station/state). If you're using less than that you're hurting your vehicle. The compression on the engine requires the higher octane gas to run at full potential. You may be save a bit at the gas station, but you're hurting your engine in the long run and probably getting worse gas mileage, and therefore filling up more.
 
I use 87 from Sam's Club. Never got any better mileage with premium. Average 19.5-20 in my FX35, 160 kilomiles.
 
Shell never

Shell and BP may the worst of the fuell from the shell station says it does not mean V with the fuel is good ,a good advert to it May.Hess is good.The station and the station is not egual to,each hass diffrent fuells and with 93 writes that does not mean with so much gone .BP shell, donuts and coffe is good and looks nice this station .

Read section 9-3 of the owner's manual. It clearly states that for the FX35 (the VQ35DE engine), "use regular gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87 AKI". The FX45 requires premium gas but the 35 doesn't.
 
Pretty sure all gas is basically the same. It's not like some gas stations get their oil from somewhere other than under the ground. Hell, some stations may even get it from the same processing station. The only difference is the additives. That Techron and V-power stuff, if that's even anything. I used to get my gas from Tom Thumb (Safeway/local grocer), and they said it was on par with Exxon's gas. Usually at school I just get Shell because it's closest. One thing that sucks is the winter blend some stations use. I made 7-10 less HP compared to last summer, and nothing was different. The tuner said the dyno compensates for temp also, so that's one reason it didn't go up.

What your saying is perfectly true since I've been in the gas business for little over 10 years.
Source of the gasoline is same and also where it gets processed and loaded onto a tanker is same too no matter what brand the station carries.
Only difference is the additive that gets added (techron, v-power, etc...) but the ratio of the additive/gasoline is very very minimal.. So basically your buying the brand, not the quality of actual gas..

But the quality of gas will differ by how long the gas sits in the station's tanks (turnover ratio, busier the station, gas will be fresher), and how often fuel filter of the pumps are changed out. Also look for state inspected stickers on the pumps. State inspects the station at least once a year and they tests if the meter is correct, any water is in the gas, and octane level is within a posted range. And most of the time octane level will be higher than the posted number (usually +0.5~2 points higher).
 
I tend to fill up from more brand type gas stations simply because I hear stories from friends on filled up at this cheap gas station and had issue, or this gas station adds gas, etc. It's nearly impossible to find a station that has a solid name brand behind it with that potential issue.
 
I hope you can find a good use for that 60 cents you save each time you fill up. :tongue (2):
 
It will add up fast if you drive enough I'm sure. Personally, I can tell a difference from the 93, granted it's not like 91 is bad. My tuner had it on the dyno, running the 91 tune with 93 gas, and he looked over at me and asked if something was different. Apparently it was running a bit rich, so I guess there is enough of a difference. That, and I think with the 93 tune it was pinging a bit even though I had already gone through one tank of 93 almost to empty before filling up on my way to the tuner.
 
I used to do sales and drove a lot. Did a few tests with the different gas stations around me and found I was getting about 2 mpg more at chevron than 76. This was consistent every time i tested it. I calculated it out and even tho 76 was about $.10 cheaper per gallon I was saving more with chevron since I would get an extra 20 miles or so every 10 gal which came out to about $2 in savings. I had a Honda prelude at the time and always used 91. Ever since then I always used either chevron or shell.
