What did you do to your FX / QX70 today?

Haha I'm in love. Now I just need my grill wrapped/painted black and I'll be buying the front spoiler next month, and I'll be done with big mods for awhile.

Shark fin would be next :)

Had the radio surround wrapped in 3M brushed titanium, but when the car was being repaired from accident, they sent it to detail shop and they scuffed it all up detailing the interior and tore it somehow. So that came off and I decided to use something different. 4D CF vinyl.

Step 1

After some trimming and heat.

Vinyl work done, metal trim piece back on.

Buttons and vents reinstalled

Overall, I like the 4D carbon fiber vinyl. It has more gloss than the regular 3M 1080 or Hexis. It doesn't have the texture, so in low light the 3M probably looks more real, but in most lighting the 4D looks better. 3M looks more like the CF leather that BMW uses on their M cars. This 4D carbon looks more like hydrodip. So I would say that neither is close to real CF, but the 4D is closer and much closer to the untrained eye.

Wow I was planning on re-doing my interior wrap this winter.

I think I am going to buy a DIY hydrodip kit, just to try it out.

Good to know if that doesn't work out I can just buy this new vinyl. It looks way better than the SimCarbon stuff I currently have.

Ya I like the new 4D cf, I redid all my pull handles in my doors awhile back, I need to do the rest of my interior.

It has a pretty good gloss. It sort of looks like clearcoat before you polish it. Not perfect, but pretty decent. It's exactly the same to work with as the 3M or any standard vinyl. Stretches pretty easily and even with a lot of heat, the pattern doesn't distort too easily. I got it into the recess for the screen without distortion which is what I was mainly worried about.

@ Jonathan - did you remove the rear emblem and the chrome trims during the wrap? If so, how hard / easy was it?

It's all pretty straightforward. The emblem you will need double sided tape to reinstall.

For the two chrome strips you will need to remove the interior hatch panel as there is a couple of nuts that hold the pieces in, as well as some push clips, which are more easily undone from the inside.

I took the symbol and trim off and like meme said it was pretty straight forward just remove the rear plastic and then a couple of screws and clips and that's it.
