What did you do to your FX / QX70 today?

Today I changed the engine air filter - it was indeed needed. One bolt on the right to remove, one clamp to unscrew, 4 clips and the box gets opened, very easy. I don't know why people remove the air duct or the whole air box, it's not required.

Had new TPMS sensors installed to remove the tire light. Unfortunately, the light is still on because I have no spare and I forgot about that. Need to build a pipe bomb for that sensor. Also had the front wheels realigned to -2 camber and the 15mm spacers back on and lowered it 1/2".

Pipe bomb?

Some people keep their sensors in a pressurized tube for aftermarket wheels that cant accommodate them. A plastic pvc tube with two caps and a Schroeder valve on one end. They decorate them like pipe bombs because they end up looking like them and it's hilaaaaaaaaaarious.

I didn't think there was either, but the TPMS sync tool kept trying to locate a 5th sensor. We swapped the 4 sensors in the wheels, he scanned all of them and they were reading. Thought we were good to go, then when he plugged into the car to program the new sensors, it scanned the first 4 and then said the 5th could not be found. He tried it several times and each time it wouldn't sync when the 5th sensor couldn't be located. So I looked and the owners manual states no TPMS in spare, but why would the tool look for the 5th sensor after being plugged into the car? I thought maybe he was using the wrong car since some cars like Lexus do have a sensor in the spare. But he checked it several times and each time it would ask for the 5th sensor.

Hm thats interesting. Where did you go to get it sync'd? I've went to discount tire, and other shops with TPMS machines. Each time they took forever and was never able to successfully sync the Infiniti TPMS. Most of the time they just told me it wasn't syncing but did not mention the specific error. The only place i've been able to sync them successfully was at the infiniti dealership itself.

I know some of the guys here are running spareless so maybe you can check with them to see if their TPMS light is on.

Best of luck and keep us updated!

Independent shop. The sensors are very hard to read. The rear tires took like 6-7 tries each because on the 22"s, the valve is right in the middle and the reader is barely able to register. The fronts are easier because the sender is closer to the edge of the tire (they don't register through the rim for some reason). The Infiniti dealer was actually unable to sync the rear tires period. They said they couldn't get them to register on the tool - told me the rims were too wide. So this time, we got as far as registering them on the tool, but when he plugged it into the car, it asked for the 5th sensor.

I took my spare out after the light was on, so I couldn't verify whether it would have affected the light.

Bought some Tamiya spray paint to paint the emblems 'dark chrome' Always loved this look but never knew how to achieve it. This DIY may help. Will post pics once the results are in :smile (2):

Worked on my rear fenders some more last night. Bent back the screw tabs to about 45 degrees. The screws still work, hopefully this will be enough clearance for now.

And to make it somewhat surreal, while I was working on my fender w/ a baseball bat, I had Andre3000 walk up and ask if I needed any help. We live in the same building and park near each other, so he always sees me doing this stuff. He thought I had a flat tire, then saw the bat and asked what I was doing. I had to explain to him the technique and everything.

You did explain to on how you did it. I tried another day, it didn't work for me because tires just like a spring and didn't put any pressure on the fender .

Haha, sometimes I keep expecting him to. I see him like 3-4 times a week and he talks and sounds just like he does in his songs.

FWIW, he is somewhat of a car guy. Right now he drives one of those Range Rover jeeps, I'm not sure of the model. And he changes his own flats; I had to help him once with that.

Did he greet you with a heyyy yaaa

You have to start at a shallow angle, with the bat nearly parallel to the tires. Bend the lip up a little bit. Then as the lip goes higher and higher, you can raise the car up more and get the bat more vertical. Same concept as a fender roller. If you start with the bat at too high of an angle, you're just pushing against the stiffest part of the lip and nothing will happen.

Honestly, if you're doing your entire fender, just rent the roller. I started with the bat. Then got the roller because it was easier and got the fender flatter. Now I'm touching stuff up with the bat because it's just small areas that I'm working on. For most people, renting the roller is the better option. Just get that and roll the part between the screws. I've gone way past that point.

You did explain to on how you did it. I tried another day, it didn't work for me because tires just like a spring and didn't put any pressure on the fender .
