What did you do to your FX / QX70 today?

after picking her up in vegas last week, i had sometime this am to get her smogged. she blows good clean air. but i did notice the technician hard a hard time with the electronic throttle control. the system asked for the tech to run the rpms between 2250 and 2950. the tech tried to feather the throttle to stay within that range but i guess the when in neutral and trying to keep at a certain rpm. it trips the throttle to drop, cause it thinks that something is wrong or the car is out of control. well that was their explanation to me.... the tech was so frustrated that he threw a pretty big fit. took him 1 hour and alot of revving to get it done.

Same, I just had my z4 smogged last week and they had no issues. Same shop and all. I was pretty puzzled. It was getting pretty idiotic.

installed the motordyne 5/8 spacer with copper iso. the plenum was disgusting. took forever to clean. The copper iso is a very tight fit. took a total of 3 hours :S and i ran out of light and had to work with a flashlight! Too kit for a spin to the store after install and was like meh no difference. too kit home and i started feeling a difference. was a nice feeling or maybe just in my head

How I started the day, pile of Invidia parts.

Stock exhaust out.

Test fitting the Invidia rear section.

Wait, that's not an Invidia part! It's actually a Magnaflow resonated X-pipe to knock down the rasp and drone. And the front section is from an '09 FX; direct bolt on to the cats.

What it looks like all welded up. Basically what I did was have them remove the stock Invidia resonators which are so small they're useless and weld in the Magnaflow.

All done!

Now that the exhaust is out of the way, on to the rear fenders. And yes, she is taking a hammer to them for clearance. It was the only way we could flatten the fenders fully along with the bump underneath the rear door.

So it was a productive day. With the Magnaflow X-pipe, the Invidia sounds like a really aggressive stock exhaust. It's deeper than the Nismo, and a bit meaner. But at full throttle, it's only a bit louder than stock, and deeper. I'll get sound clips soon, but I personally think it sounds great. Some may find it too mild, but I like it. No drone, it's a tiny bit "boomy" around 2k rpm, but almost impossible to notice in the car. At highway cruising, it's only a tiny bit louder than stock. It sounds "smoother" than the stock exhaust. No rasp at all, no buzziness. So for those of you who think the Invidia is too loud, I'd highly recommend the Magnaflow X-pipe. As a technical note, I had the shop weld on an extra hanger to the right mid-pipe. There is a factory hanger there, but not one on the Invidia. This had the extra benefit of bringing the pipe up enough to clear the GT-Spec lateral brace. Otherwise, it would hit.

Thanks to dlaska for the great deal on the rear section and jmess for the great deal on the 09+ Invidia front section.

Thanks, it came out better than expected. I was really worried right before we cranked it, but it sounded really nice when we did. The initial plan was to use the stock Invidia resonators and add the x pipe after, but it wouldn't fit. So we cut the resonators off and made a really big Y-pipe. FWIW, and this is just my opinion, but the Invidia isn't the best built exhaust I've seen. Fitment was fine, but the details aren't there. Hopefully by adding the extra hanger, I'll avoid the cracking problems.

nice job shadow you really had it all thought out :good:
i remember going place to place and thinking what could i do to get the invidia to work
