What did you do to your FX / QX70 today?

Installed the Stillen CAI and LMS Z tube today. I'm really impressed how the car sounds after 3000 rpms with Stillen Exhaust, I was flooring the car all day with windows down. Very pleased with the sound levels of my setup, exactly what I wanted. Really quite below 3000 rpm, and throaty and aggressive after 3000.
3000-5000 rpm is my favorite range for in town driving right now. Totally exceeded my expectations, and worth the cost. Videos and pictures coming soon...

What's the difference between the Stillen Z-tube and LMS z-tube?

Stillen z tube is shorter and made from plastic. LMS is much longer, made from metal and eliminate one unecessary connection between TB and z tube. Not in production anymore.

Ahhh, that last sentence just put a cloud over my head. Thanks for the info.

I thought the LMS z-tube is made out of aluminum. Kind of negates the effect of having a CAI. The aluminum would soak up the heat from the engine bay.

Stillen z-tube are made out of plastic and only $59:

With the speed of the air going into the intake, there really isn't much heat that is radiated from the intake tube. However, there is a bit of a drop off when starting off from a stop, also due to hot air building up in the engine bay.

Yep, fits without any problems. I do have shorter LMS black z tube without MAF connector though. But they are same diameter.

That lip looks great.

Funny thing about the lip, the clips that secure it underneath the oem bumper broke off.... ALL of them.. The push pins looked a little iffy when I installed them.. I think they broke off during my trip while going 90+ on certain sections of kentucky... or maybe that semi truck tire tread that we ran over on the hwy...:eek.:

looks nice Ian. Did you actually do this yourself!?? :tongue (2):

Yeah and believe me I regret every bit of it.. I had to move the car further and further back to keep it in the shade.. neighbors must have thought I was nuts.
Looks good Ian. Are these guys doubting that you really did it yerself

Usually I have a shot of my car wash crew here in Chicago lol.

Wait.. so wouldn't having a plastic tube be more effective than a metal tube?

If they were the same shape and size, then yes. Metals in general will transfer heat better than plastics, so a metal intake tube will get hotter in the engine bay than will its plastic equivalent.
