VK45 –Stage 1 Headers/JWT cams/TB/intake

Received notice today that the FX was dropped off at the tuner shop (I was in an all day meeting) and is set for a Wednesday tune. Charles said again how well it is running and that is sounds amazing. Wondering now how much the incorrect lifter buckets may have had to do with the slightly rough runs before it detonated. He also think the magical head work has helped measurably.....Painful, I will be out of town for the next three days and have to wait until Friday to pick it up.

Glad to hear it will be finished and that would be very painful having to let it sit while you are away on business.

Not as painful as your knee recovery! Hey, feel free to say a prayer that this thing dyno's over 300, preferably a few more......honestly I have no idea what to expect. After all the crap-o-la and if it dynos out poorly I may have to make something up =)

Ive just read thru most of this thread. ALL that trouble, why Not just drop a LS motor in it. So many g35s/350zs running LS motors. So much easier, Makes so much better power. Everything is much cheaper. And LS motors are smaller then vq35s. So it wouldve easily worked in the house of vq45. But more power to u man. Enjoy the new beast.

No awd with an LS...

^ Good point Tim. Looking back with all the time and money spent I would choose to try a VK 56 swap. Honestly going in I never would have expected all the issues I encountered but at this stage its sunshine and margaritas if it runs well. I just want to drive for awhile.....

Still glad you're sticking with your build, Lance.

I heard back from Mine's last night about tuning. I'm going to have to pick your brain about the cams and a few other things.

No text from tuner (I am offsite with kids for a three day spring break break) text request was simple send short vid clip, WHP #'s and TQ. Nothing yesterday sense I can't pick it up until Friday i am assuming they didn't tune it yesterday. Hopefully today. Love to hear what you are planning. FYI - I found out a few more things on my build that are fairly low cost with potential solid returns. This isn't over.....

post some pics!!

You know it! Planning on a more concise pictorial when all is said and done.

So - I received the news from the shop on Thursday (they tuned on Wednesday, I was out with the fam for break) not good.

Been wallowing in pain and indecision as to how to handle this and what the next steps will be. Deja Vu - Engine failed, again. Same exact situation, same exact failure - same valve. Block is completely toast this time with two huge holes. The first failure was determined to be a valve, the second was determined to be incorrect lifter buckets (double Vs. single) but it appears to be the same issue. After disassembly this weekend Charles now believes that there may be an internal incompatibility with the valves and either the springs or the cams. JWT is flying the head assembly and the corresponding cams/springs down to thoroughly check them over and find out exactly what is going on. This is an opportunity to clear up all issues surrounding this build and better market the parts to make this a dependable configuration. The amount of PM's and inquiries I have received over the last seven months would show this to be a worthwhile VK45 cross platform sales opportunity for JWT. But what still needs to be provided to potential buyers are complete install instructions, a reasonable dependability timeline (miles or hours) and dyno numbers.

Wish I had better news, wish I was posting dyno numbers right now and out driving my FX. The interest level and understanding of this affair amongst my friends in Seattle is pretty much zero, it is very nice to have iS to vent my frustrations regarding this process. I still wonder where I would be right now had I just stuck to all breather/intake mods CAI/TB/Intake/heads/4-2-1's headers and the HFC's......The wholes point on the cams was to increase the pull through the system which still makes complete sense as it will maximize all the new components/porting work.

With Charles 100's of hours (he has been amazing BTW) and my cash outlay for a seemingly simple install this has become extremely expensive for both of us. Plus simply not having my DD for seven months has been a huge PITA.

Hoping for resolve soon, stay tuned.
