Vinyl Wrap Vs Powder Coating Wheels

Im thinking about getting my factory 20" wheels a different color, maybe a smoke grey metallic.. I see alot of FX's with the wheels done in black so I wanna do something different, carbon fiber would probably look good too. My question is what do you guys think would be better, the vinyl wrap or the powder coating? I assume if I want the carbon fiber look I would have to go with the wrap anyway..
 
Powder coating or hydro dipping. It will be very difficult to wrap 20" OEM wheels good.

it won't be as durable as powder-coated wheels though.

Damn!! they look good...I really didn't wanna powder coat because I may wanna change the color later on down the line and im sure it'll be easier to remove.. lol wait, what is hydro dipping?

Hydro dipping is pretty legit! Ill wait for someone to chime in to explain. You should YouTube it and watch.

It's still not a great idea. It will peel very quickly from road debris and the complexity of the wheel's shape makes it hard to wrap well. Just because it's been done doesn't mean it's a great idea. zebra and I both have fully vinyl wrapped cars so we're aware of the downsides of vinyl wrapping.

I would recommend powdercoating or professional paint. It will be a much more durable option.
 
Well hypro dipping is permanent. Simple definition... dip the wheel into a pool of water/solution with a thin thin film and then clear coat the wheel to protect the film. If you plan to change color of the wheel often, vinyl wrap is the way to go. The winter months will be takes a lot out of the vinyl on the wheel for sure. It all depends on how quickly you want to change the color of the wheel too. Change the color after every winter?
 
Nice... how much does the hydro dipping run? My local detailing shop was gonna charge me $800 to powder coat the wheels..
 
But in my honest opinion, for the stock wheels a CF might look bad. I had the same idea but the faces of them are just too big for the print. With an aftermarket it wouldn't look bad though! I would say just get some aftermarket wheels in the color you want man!

For all my engine pieces I paid $250 but they quoted me $350 so I'd say like $500-$600?
 
Yeah as I was looking at the video I was thinking the same thing.. the face is too big, I may just got with the smoke metallic.. Aftermarket wise I was looking at a bigger wheel maybe 24s or a 22 and get it lowered...
 
Maybe shop the powdercoating around if you decide to go that route. $800 is a bit high, especially for OEM. Obviously it depends on area, but around here it would be less than $600.
