VDC & AWD Fully Off - How To

Jumbucks - awesome.

I have a set of bald 4x100 Miata wheels. With adapters, wonder if I could mount them without setting the chassis on the ground? They should be light enough for sure...

Just tried this. Pretty cool, definitely got the back to spin out a little, but not worth shredding up your tires imo

Dude, Big Red will DESTROY those little miata tires! You have to do this!!! I'll go $20 toward some uber cheap tires. What size are they?

That's $45.00 Jumbucks thus far, I'll up my tire burner contribution to $30.00 so we are at an Even $50.00......

Answer to JB

JB, I bet you're right. It might be AWD, not 4x4 light. I'll take a look at it today. Sorry for the stupid mistake))

Haha, yeah, this post went far =) I feel proud for myself to be the beginner of the FXTireBurningCentury =)))

Due to the fact that i am having my supercharger installed atm ... i was thinking of having the fuse pulled the whole time ... at least until i have trips up to the mountains where the roads are icy and all that ... does the extra power cause any damage to the AWD system when the fuse is pulled?:eek.:

I dont really think there will be any "extra power". I guess more power will be going to the rear wheels, but my guess is your car will actually be slower if you remove the switch permanently. The only way you car would be faster from being rwd is if it was in fact rwd. The extra weight from the AWD will still be the culprit for a loss of "power". The only benefit (if you wish to call it a benefit) you will receive from pulling the fuse permanently will be the ability to spin the rear tires out. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

That is exaclty my goal in the first place .... Im looking to have fun with my vehicle ... Im aware that the wont be any quicker ... Im not removing the switch permenantly ... It will only be returned during condition which would require more traction ... I believe it would be kinda fun to spin my rear wheels when i want ...

Did any one do this to an FX45

I have an 03 fx45 It had rained here in Chicago land today and I did a little sliding around in the wet parking lots until I got the damn slip light

I would like to be able to flip a switch and rear steer my FX.

Yea i agree with you:tup: .... i think somone on the forum has already had a switch installed to switch between AWD and RWD  .... there should be a DIY on this ... but i have noooo idea how to do this:err:

Today I realized that the light me and JB were talking about was neither AWD nor 4x4. It's 4WD!!!!!!!!!!!

Some time ago somewhere I heard that our cars AWD system works this way: From 0-20 km/h it splits the torque between all 4 wheels (50:50). After 20 km/h the car becomes RWD, if no spin is detected. I don't know if that was true or not...

After testing the car with my iPhone's Dynolicious app I finally understood that there were no real gain in acceleration. So probably it was just a psychological feeling)))
So, It's good only if you wanna' burn some rubber.

Thanks for the update Nick, good to know there's no real gains from the switch, and awd changes to rwd anyway, not sure what the point of the switch is (except burning rubber :):))

Dear guys/gils,

I spent soooo many time searching and trying and finally I did it.

I ask you, please, don't post any comments like: "You shouldn't turn off the VDC" or smth like that because I'm writing this post for the FX owners who want to get some extra fun while driving the car.

I read a lot of posts saying that there is a Yaw G Sensor under the center console and by unplugging the sensor or some wires from it you can get your VDC fully off. This is not quite true.

Here's my experience: Last winter we had lots and lots of snow in my country so I used to drift a looot. When you push the VDC OFF button - the system lets you do anything you want, like drifting, spinning wheels and all that stuff! I'll post some videos later here. The only thing you should mention is that the car remains AWD and you won't be able to burnout (even on ice)!

After unplugging the Yaw G Sensor there were no additional effect at all! It was just the same as if you turn the VDC OFF. I don't know, maybe I just didn't feel it... But I don't think so) So, it is not what we need.

But there is a little secret: if you really want to add some more fun and have your rear wheels spin crazy you should unplug one fuse from your cabin foot fuse compartment.
The needed fuse is red 10A marked on the fuse map as 4WD SOL. After uninstalling it and starting your engine you won't see any additional lights on your dashboard. But after you put your car into the D position and start driving - you'll see a 4x4 light came up!
After that don't forget to turn OFF the VDC and...have fun)) Now you drive a 280hp (or more, like in my case) rwd car)))
And there is no problems with ABS or Rear lights - everything works just fine! Car doesn't stall or smth else. Tried accelerating up to 180 km/h (115 mph) and everything's just fine.

I dunno if it is really so or not, but it REALLY feels that car accelerates better!

To have a nice tire sound put your car into the manual shifting mode, switch it to the first gear and at first try to start accelerating while turning. The cars back will slide and you'll see some black tireprints and hear a nice sound of your spinning tires))) Than you can try the brake/burnout!!!

Hope that you'll find it interesting)
Best regards,
Nick:smug::smug::smug:

Here is the video: youtu.be/H0mTA4cn7NE?hd=1
Thanks StuLax for posting it below =)

P.S.
1) MTN FX - It really feels that FX accelerates much easier. Dunno if it is just a feeling or it is really so. I'll try to measure it tommorow!
2) Dracula - of course more fun more problems... But I won't use this feature 24/7... This is only for a short period of time, so I hope it won't do any harm.
3) Toy4x - as I stated before - it's not for everyday use. Of course car handles much much much better with awd. This is only made to burn some rubber and find out if the car accelerates a bit better! No other objectives on it...
4) Turbo, I'm glad you commented it, thank you! Yeah, you're quite right about it all. There's no other purpose for doing it than just to have some fun & burnouts. I'll measure the acceleration tommorow and let you know. If we talk about the dyno testing - I don't think that this is a good idea. The front wheels shouldn't spin... But who knows. Maby somebody will try it and just tell us))
5) Finally, I know that this mod is the one of the most unnecesary mods ever done! It was made most of all to uncover the truth about the awd. Now we know some more about it! And... Hahaha - It also impressed my girlfriend)))))))))))

P.S.S.
6) I have already bought a switch to easily turn it off/on. The only question left: where is the cable from that fuse???

Thanks everybode for the comments)) Hope to see some more guys trying this)))

With Best Regards,
Nick

New member here!

I've been searching the internet for months and visiting the infiniti dealership to try to find out how to make my fx35 RWD! And now i finally found a solution to my ''problem'' :D I am not so familiar with the wires and such in my vehicle so I was wondering how to disconnect this wire so my vehicle will be RWD?

Could you please make a step-by-step guide on how to unplug the fuse? I also don't know what the '' cabin foot fuse compartment '' is..:P

Thanks a lot for your help,
vidarhan :)

No wires, just a single fuse. Pull it out and you're RWD. Simple as that.

...

Step by step guide:

1) In the cabin, near your right foot, is a fuse compartment under a small plastic panel. Find it.

2) Inside the cabin foot fuse compartment, is a fuse labeled "4WD SOL". Pull it.

I just noticed this thread is about 03-08 fx's... Mine is a 2010.. I tried looking for a '' fuse compartment under a small plastic panel '' but couldn't find it.. is it different in 2010's ?

Thanks a lot for your help anyways though! :)

No problem. I'm not sure how this trick applies to the 2nd gen FXs...
