Unichip Installation

1) Aaron has maps for pretty much anything, especially a FX35 since the 350Z works very well on them and there are tons of maps for 350z.
2) Having a base map with NO mods factored in is the map you'll want from what it sounds. If you add a Z tube, no need for another map. When you add a full intake, that's when you'll want another map, but not necessary. Reason is that a full intake can make the engine run a little lean or rich and it will be mapped for that via air/fuel ratios. Adding a z tube won't effect that just increase flow (more hp).

Makes sense?

Thanks Ed, I've just gotten back from a vacation. Will give Aaron a call sometime soon.
However, I have another question...
I look around and people talking about Stillen z-tube Intake kit to improve performance a bit.
I question is... should I leave my car at stock, no mods or install that intake kit then install unichip on top of it?
I'm thinking if Aaron has a map for no mods that can performs as well as a map for Stillen z-tube intake, then why I should waste money for the intake kit anyway. Is it right?

Here is the list of maps available from Unichip for the 350z. They don't currently have anything specifically for the FX35, but Andy (la_fx35), and I are running some variation of these 350z maps and I have personally verified that every one works. The list shown is for 91 octane fuel only, but the same list exists in the 87 and 93 octane folders.

So I'm very interested in this for a future mod...particularly given the performance AND mileage gains. I have one question though....I'm at elevation (~5000 ft), so are there tunes available to accommodate, or is the chip/ECU smart enough to remap given the thinner air here?Cheers,Steve

There is a two part answer to your question.

First, to answer directly; No, there are no elevation specific maps available from Unichip at this time, and the chip itself does not consider or compensate for elevation.

Second, in regard to elevation compensation; The Unichip can be made transparent to all OEM ecm functions, so any compensation for air twmp/density that would normally be done without the chip will continue to occur with the chip. Your best bet will definitely be to have a tune created for your particular situation/location.

Do you know if there is a Unichip tuner in your area?

I can see a creating a custom map will benefit your location. Two way to go about creating a custom map, you cann go to a local Unichip tuner or buy the AFR Wideband O2 sensor and the scanner software where you can do the data logging and use the captured data to build your own custom map.

I feel like I'm late to the party here. My brother-in-law is parting with his '06 350z and I told him I might be interersted in taking his Unichip Q off his hands for my 06' FX35. What additional items if any would i need for installation? He has the cable for the ECU but he isnt sure about the one to hook it up to a pc (he is looking now). He does have the simple 2 position rocker switch so if I understand the previous pages correct that should work. I do have a lot of bolt on mods though. Injen CAI, Motordyne 5/16 spacer, HR headers, HR HFCs, Nismo TD exhaust w/ X pipe. Based on this and his only having a CAI, will I need a significantly different program loaded and if so what is the best direction to take? Sorry if these have already been answered but this is my first time tuning the ECU on this vehicle. Thanks for any help, BF

Do it. The cable you need is cheap and the install is easy. There are maps available to get you running right for sure. :top:

will this mod work on a 08? what typr of unichip will work? found a brand new unichip for g35 coupe or sedan. do i need anyhting else like different wiring? what should come as a set?

Yes. You want the Unichip Q. The basic kit is comprised of the chip module, a USB cable, a two way rocker switch, and the large black plastic connector that plugs into the side of the chip (for connecting to your ecm harness). Anything else is an "extra". You can get the manual, install instructions, and maps online.

Sure, it will work on our FX. Might need to get a different map, like one for the 350z. Not sure what mods/maps it got on it. Maybe you should ask the seller. If his mods not too extreme, it might be just plug and play for you. That is a great price.

would the wire that hooks up to the ecu be the right one? do i need to buy additional wires? he said what ever is in the picture is what comes with it. i dont see any rocker switches or usb cables in the picture as tchuck mentioned should come with it

The USB cable is an optional cable, but need to to download a new map to the chip. Unichip call it the "download" cable. It will be around $30 from Unichip. Can't see the toggle switch which is use for change maps. I would ask if it at least comes with the toggle switch.

if it doesn't do you know how much one would go for?

Not sure on that, but it should comes with any Unichip. Worst, I have one I can send you, since I have the 5-way switch which allow for 5 different maps set. If you thinking of buying the a toggle (2 maps) switch cable, I would suggest of getting the 5-way switch for $75.

yea i would get the 5 way switch for sure since i could program multiple maps in? jsut out of curiosity how much would a new kit with 5way switch and usb cable run me usually? if i price it out for the one im bout to buy, its <$330 buxs. awesome deal?

Yes you can have up to 5 maps with the 5-way. It also can switch on the fly too. $475 for a new chip, $30 for the download cable and $75 the 5-way switch; so there. $250 for the chip; its a steal if you ask me :smile (2):

picking it up tomorrow hopefully it works. doubt ill install it till next year tho. waiting for warranty to be over

About the warranty, the cool thing about a piggy back system is the dealer won't know it's there unless they physically look at the ECU. Ah, maybe we should do a Unichip Meet when I visit Toronto. I spend so much time there when my grandmother was around. I go there every other years now.
