the new fx moves the grille down & the grille is very wide, moves the headlights all the way towards the sides of the nose just like eyes on a fish, which also giving the grille a fish mouth kinda look... you take all that in before you even get to notice the details of this grille I think, & at that point it almost looks like the teeth of a fish in the grille on that nose so yeah, it's hard to appreciate the design in that context I think, but the design itself of the grille to me is pretty artsy, kind of an abstract design & to me it's a beautiful creative design for a grille.
it also flows very well with the emblem & ties it in well because now the emblem is not just a bump on an otherwise smooth flat surface. it reminds me of the older car designs where the grille was more than just a smooth flowing way to let air in, but back to the days when a grille was a bigger part of the design of a car & more of an eye catching centerpiece & ornamental, where now adays car design tends to lean more towards trying to integrate & try to make the grille disappear or blend in more than stand out. something about it that I just like, it breaks up the smoothness just enough but it's also pretty flowy so it doesn't really detatch itself from the design either & stick out in a bad way I think... it also looks way more sporty than the qx grille I think...
I would gloss black the whole center & leave a chrome boarder & chrome emblem...

& yeah, I could def see it with a black emblem, think it would still be noticable enough & look good with a black emblem too really...
also, keep in mind that this is just chopped up & stuck in place, not finalized or finished really... you can see in some of the shots it's a little crooked but it won't be when all assembled

this is actually something I didn't even realize, I just assumed I'd be able to get an agressive winter snow tire even in 22, but now that I look I don't see anything...
there are all seasons, def will do the job, but it would have been cool to have ultra high performance sport truck summer tires in the summer & real winter snow tires for the winter... guess it's not so bad though with all seasons, was pretty good with the parada spec x's really, so it'll do the job for the winter that the staggered advan st's can't.
when I was choosing tires for the staggered setup I couldn't find any suitable tire at all in a good matching staggered configuration in an all season tire that approached the 315+ range, if I could then I might have, but I wanted the extreme staggered setup bad enough that I was willing to even use ultra high performance summer tires & then swap out to winter wheels. glad I did cause these tires winded up with my suspension to be just sick handling & well worth the hassle of the winter wheel deal really to me.
soooooo, I start looking at tires for the new winter wheels, all seasons... they make a parada spec x in a good size, they make a few other tires that would work of course too, then, I see a new tire from tire rack: "The Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico is Pirelli's Street/Sport Truck All-Season tire designed for the North American market to provide year round traction and handling for sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks that possess very sporty dispositions. "..... sounds pretty good... then I look at the sizes...
now get this, turns out they happen to make this tire in a very very wide 335/25-22. that's huge, bigger than what I have now, think that's ~the size rookie is running on his fx. even more cool, they have a diameter matching front tire for a crazy staggered setup... a 285/30-22... for a 9-1/2" 11-1/2" stagger
I think I might have seen this setup but was put off by the fact that it's an even smaller 28.9" diameter?, either that or they are listed as new, maybe they weren't even available lat year when I did my wheels??? don't know, but I think i'd remember this setup more if I had seen it...
wow, I know I stuffed the 315 back there with 11" rim & got it to tuck, but a 335 with an 11 1/2" rim?... it might be possible, gotta measure....
that would be a very extreme setup, assanti staggered wheels with 335/25 rear & 285/30 front all seasons for the snow :tonguey:
I could change the rear inner barrel & the lip & get the assanti to be 11-1/2" wide in the rear, not that big of a deal & worth the investment if it fits. don't know if I can get the stock body fx to swallow a 13.1" wide tire though.... maybe? :ever:

I don't get it then, cause I remember looking at your rear tire & thinking maybe, but then I remember there not being a suitable matching front in a close enough diameter to work in awd... I remember seeing that your setup is using a different diameter front than the rear right?, which of course is fine with rwd... don't know how I could have not seen this matching diameter front... unless at the time I just thought the under 29" overall diameters was just too small, but still.. I don't remember seeing this set as an option for some reason back then...
I know a monster wide rear like that is not ideal for snow, maybe even kinda suck in the snow a little, but being awd & being in the city where snow is delt with really quickly it may not be totally crazy. at least the tire itself is a good rubber compound for the winter & an all season tread...
I was thinking about the possibility to run my current tires in the winter & I could, but they would really suck, the rubber compound is just no good at all below freezing & the tread pattern is not suitable at all either, these pirelli's at least are somewhat doable & somewhat less insane than that at least....

ok, but then logic sets in... suppose I really was able to get this 335 to tuck under the stock body... then at that point, do I really even need the summer advan's at all at that point? I mean the pirrelli's would actually be a fine all year use tire really, & at that point I guess I don't even really need the summer tires setup at all really, but oh man, the grip these things have is just so awesome... wonder how the pirrelli's would compare for like track use & stuff... hmmm...

the pirelli's are awesome I kept my rims on last year snow season in seattle no complaints at all
yeah, nyc snow can be a little bad, but the plows are out right away so for the most part awd is not so critical , I've driven in it for many years with just a rwd car on regular tires so I'm sure this can't be much worse than that... had I been in the suburbs then maybe snow would be a bit more of an issue too... the thing I'd worry about more than snow traction is potholes, in the freezing weather we get tons of those... a 25 series rear, 30 series front... that would be the scary part, more so than traction I'd say...
I'm really baffled as to why I wouldn't have chossen this tire setup in the first place, I coulda sworn there wasn't a matching front :err:
I looked under the fx again right now... a 335 can fit under the stock body no problem for the most part, the only thing that will limit this though is the trailing arm... the 13" wide tire inside of the body well will probably hit it & the pivot mounting bolt for it, that's the only interference point... if the mount was altered a little & a new curved trailing arm was built, then the 335 can tuck on the fx if centered properly though, think this'll be a project for next fall... a 13" wide tire completely under the ass of the fx & tucked sounds hot, making my 315's seem a bit weak in comparison... but then again a lot of work & $$ for that extra inch or so of wheel width too, but every inch counts really I guess too, so.......

whatever works for you, I guess if you send them back I'll do the same color but with no clear, I just hope they don't look too low gloss compared to the PC, but at that point we won't have the sun issue at least & they'll match color wise I guess, should be ok I think...
unless you want to try & pick up a can of the krylon semi-flat satin that tko mentioned & try spraying a scrap of something to see if that matches well enough too, I could them spray them for you with that if it matches well enough.....

yeah I gotcha. weird thing is they were originally just sprayed regular black lol and it matched better than the color-matched black
