here's just a little peak at what I had to do to get clear corners... it looks easy in these pictures but let me tell you this stuff is a bitch to work with...
it took me several tries in this to get an acceptable mold that produced acceptable results...
this was my most sucessful method so far. first, lay them out on a board with clay & the straws are the fill & vent to cast them...
then seal this into a box for a mold pour...
this is what I used to make the silicone pour...
here is the first pour...
partially demold...
then have to make a hard shell for that part of the mold, this is the compound used for that...
and this is with the hard shell made onto this side...
ok, now that all cures, flip it over & remove all the clay & everything & left with this (reflectors reinserted here)...
then were going to set up for the second side...
and poured
make a hard shell for that side too &..
I had a lot of trouble getting an acurate mold of the reflector side, so many tiny little facets & I was getting tiny air bubbles trapped at the peak of each facet, so I had to redo a portion even on like my 3rd attempt, so I cut out the offending areas & repoured yet again, but with the reflectors horizontal to not trap air in each facet, here is the offending part cut out...
heres a few attempts
hers one of the attempts ready for a pour, pour in the center till it vents out of the 2 sides
and the material used to cast these in, it's made in france & supposedly the clearest casting resin out there...
and the end results, as I've shown here before....
as you can see, this has captured every detail of the original & is the same, even down to the reflectivity they have, these clear copies have just as much reflectivity & transparency as the originals, only not amber
at first I wasn't going to show all the steps it took to make these, but then again I highly doubt anyone else is going to go out & spend hundreds of $$ on materials & spend so many hours trying to reproduce these just to have a set of clears anyway, & if anyone was so inclined then hey, more power to you, at least now you have a clue as to what's involved & know that it can be done...
heres a shot of just some of my current mold making supplies for this & the different products I tried... think I spent about $700 in mold making supplies already, I know just my last one trip to pearl art supply was like $450 alone :tonguey: this stuff is pricey & wasting/ruining while learning how to work with it sucks
now the bad part about this is, the mold only lasts so long, & after several castings the mold is no good, have to do it all over again... I got ~6-7 sets out of one good mold & it's time for another mold..., 2 of these sets I've used for testing of smoking methods & compatability, & one set didn't come out well because I had the mold clamped too tight, so the yeild at this point for all these efforts is 4 good sets

for those asking about buying just the clears, I won't have any for sale until I finish all these lights & at that point if I still have my sanity enough to produce more I may be able to sell a few sets, or I may just keep them as exclusive to my own lights only, not too sure yet, have to make yet another mold & see how many I can yield out of that one...
