yeah, I guess I can say cars are my career a lill bit

it is nice to have a career in something you genuinely enjoy...I don't mean it don't suck sometimes, but it does help it be bearable & then theres always the satisfaction of a job that comes out well... I always advise don't choose the career for the money, choose what you enjoy doing & make that your career & the money will come.... I'm still waiting :frown: maybe I shoulda been a doctor or a lawyer, but I think I'm much happier as a car guy overall...

I believe that to find your enjoyment in your job is the most important thing. So, John, since we all know you definitely enjoy your work, just take it easy and baby steps. :.smile:

i just like reading this thread because it's like a weekly show on tv. there's always something new going on and i really enjoy the plot too.

I have an awesome design for new paddle shifters that I've been wanting to produce too, but haven't done anything with those till I finish these... but then I have so many things I need to do to my fx too... not enough hours in the day, that's for sure:biggrin:

Ok ok this must be said before i lose my mind......John lay of the paddle shifters man.....start doing something else......they are fine the way they are

I believe Turbo's main points for the paddles v2 are for more nissan/infiniti fitments and the better feel in shifts. so yea, some would drool all over it (again).

edit: i'm trying to save up now for them v2's

V2's....?? Ohhh those i know already....thought he was working on V3's :err:

don't know if I could put up with myself as a clone, might be cool though

the v2 paddles came to be because I had a 350z that wanted paddles & the ign cylinder was in the way, so I redesigned a new way that needed to have a more compact switching mechanizim. the feel was very important & in trying to get them to at least feel as good as the originals, I winded up getting them to feel even better. after I finished them I realized that the same design can be very universal, & fit all nissan & infinitis with the tiptronic type tranny, including the fx.only thing that would have to change from aplication to aplication is the column cover.

benifits are cleaner finished look slightly, the less compact original design had to stick out of the column cover slightly. other benifit is that there much easier to install, don't even need to pull the steering wheel or airbag or get into the guts of the column at all, just uscrew the oe cover, install mine, wire it up & done. the better feel is another bonus, not to mention v2's are a little cheaper even than v1's

v1 was & still is a valid way to do these, but v2 is better, which is why I sugessted to some to wait for v2... if after I finsh these lights anyone wants v1's I'd consider doing another batch before getting into finishing development of v2's, as the v1's are doable right away, already have the jigs & design down, there fully developed & proven to still be awesome, they can be done easier & quicker than v2's, but the v2's are better & might be worth the wait...

freaking genious!! i'll have to look into it.. i know for a fact that i'll be getting the mirrors light first.

hey john i know this is the Headlight thread.. but how much cheaper is V2 from V1?

don't know exactly, maybe close to $100 less or so. I still don't know my full production costs, I plan to have some stuff like plates & stuff machined for me, not sure of the final exact costs but shooting for ~$100 less or so maybe...

awww.. you will make me dig into the archives!

found it! V1 was 650.00 shipped.. so V2 would be 550.00 shipped.. more or less??

correct me if im wrong John...

ooo i see my self getting this!!!!

he's not gonna quote an exact price until he knows for sure. he said about $100 less, so............... about $550. not trying to be rude, but, he's said it a few times already. he doesn't need to keep posting the same thing.

ok, back to the custom lights that took forever & a day ...

I've already said too many times how sorry I am for these taking such a rediculously long time so I'm not even going to say that again, I just haven't had the time to really complete everything the way I thought I would, but I'm closer now than ever. doc's lights & humberto's lights are scheduled to go out from me to them by the end of next week, then i'm going to florida for a week, when I get back I'll be solidifying the list here of whever still wants these & then they will get finished & go out after that. just about everything is done & ready for final paint & assy on these, took a lot more effort than I originally thought it would.

the last thing that I have been working on with these lights past few weeks is the side reflectors. I tried the aluminum mesh, tinting & even using a film over them, but realized that nothing is going to change the amber look enough to really compare to a true clear side marker reflector like the european new fx's have...

humberto really wanted clear side markers no matter what & I just refused to do the home depot cut out look on these lights no matter how much he insisted on him having to have clear, I think it would really cheapen the look overall, not something I'd even be proud to say I did even, don't want to go through this much work to make a custom light like this & then cheapen them just to have clear side reflectors, so I winded up doing what I've had in mind for a while now anyway, which is to cast my own clear side marker reflector lenses... it took a while for me to perfect the techniques involved & learn how to even do this, but I did & the results are pretty sweet I'd say.

check out the reflectivity of these:

& heres a far shot with flash, the white ones are on the table next to the ambers... they are just as reflective as the originals, just as transparent & exactly the same, only white instead of amber...

in a little over 2 weeks I'll be looking to get the final list togeather & start getting ready to take deposits... were getting there, slowly but surely:tongue:
