Tinting

Bit the bullet and got it done. I got my windshield tinted 50%. My shop uses Suntek tint.

random question... when they do the windshield, how do they handle the inspection stickers??

---------- Post added at 02:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:08 PM ----------

btw how much would i look into spending to have my 2 front n windshield done? any rough idea... 35% front and 50% windshield with 3m or suntek or decent tint

At the shop that redid my windshield (martino auto concepts) they use a heat gun to remove the inspection and registration stickers to soften up the adhesive.

My windshield tint cost $150 and my front windows $150 too but that because they work mostly on exotics and high end luxury cars.

My shop cuts around the inspection stickers.(2).
It cost me $110 for the front windows and $130 for the windshield. normally 160 for the windshield.

see thats what im afraid of, them cutting around it... i feel like the right way would be how they did aaron's.. i gotta see how this shop by my house does it.. and what kind of tint they use

I have to do inspection annually so having the mechanics messing up the tint was not an option. Cutting around it gives the mechanic room to do the stickers.

Tint is first done on the outside by using a heat gun to get it to conform to the glass and cutting the shape out. Then it is carried to the inside of the car where its applied inside.

Hoping to get my fronts tinted this week ........... finally :smile (2): would 20% be dark enough especially since I've got a Black interior ??? TIA

Sent from my Nexus 7 2

45% windshield with 18% fronts. Same color too ;-) Do eeeeet!

I love your ride Ian.....I'm still constantly thinking of going darker after all this time lol Even after putting 15% on top of the factory rear as well. I kind of want to put 15% over the rear sides as well and put 5% on the fronts....in hopes that it matches on the side.

Elaine....to be honest, the front lip looks soo good and I'm so used to it now that I'm not really digin the 2nd gen FX anymore without the lip....that's how awesome the lip is. In person it's 100x better than the pic. Luckily I had people like Wayne, Ian, Aaron, etc convincing me to get it.

The darker interior will make the tint darker from the outside. If that's your concern then go with 70-80%, I guarantee that you will regret not going darker.

I agree. I love my windshield at 45%...it's perfect for the windshield and i have black interior

I would never tint the front windshield, that's just a safety hazard , not to mention the ticket magnet. I have 20% all around the sides, and at night time it gets pretty dark, but it sure looks cool from the outside. :)

You would never because you don't know how awesome it is. I get positive comments all the time.

My car is always cooler in the hot sunny days
I don't get any glare at night from headlights and stuff...my parents absolutely love it.
I don't have to wear sunglasses anymore.
At night it's not dark really because it's only 45%. 20% is a big difference.

Just slap a sheet of 20% on the sides and call it a day. I did that. $50 and one hour later, mission accomplished.

I agree with Jonas' comment regarding not having to wear sunglasses.

Song is in my head now... Future so bright, I gotta wear shades.

Not sure if its already been mentioned here, but when I had my other car tinted recently the installer enlightened me to the fact that even the lightest tint can block up to 95% of incoming UV radiation.

My point being I would have never considered doing the windshield before because I thought I had to go dark to get any real sunblock benefit.

Anyone had problems with insurance companies before because of the tinted windshield? I know Aaron mentioned this earlier, anyone else?

Aren't all newer windshields uv coated anyway?
